It's been confirmed that quite a few of the actors who starred in the original Lord of the Rings trilogy will be reprising their roles when The Hobbit starts shooting this winter. Well, here's what Elijah Wood had to say when he spoke to The Hollywood Reporter: "(Ian) McKellen is back, Cate Blanchett is back, Andy Serkis, and Orlando (Bloom)... It's going to be like going back in time."

When asked who else might be joining the cast, Wood answered that he didn't know and said "I haven't even read the script." However, what he does know is that he's needed on set in February and that his part will indeed only be a small one (which makes sense as Frodo doesn't actually appear in the novel).

Finally, commenting on faithfulness to the book, he said: "There only would have been reservation about taking the part if there had been something that had infringed upon the integrity of the original book.... But that was never going to be the case."

"The Hobbit, Part 1" hits theaters 19th December 2012!

i like how they have pretty much solidified hat this will be a shitty movie before it even started filming. frodo and saromon have no place in this film. [frick] jackson for directing this.

I thought they already said he wasn't going to be Frodo.

@helacaster - I'm fairly sure he is going to be Frodo but he is going to be reading from the "Red Book of Westmarch" which if you don't know is the book that Bilbo, Frodo, and Sam write about their adventures in Middle Earth. So Frodo might have a 5 min part where you see him either writing or reading as the film beings.

As far as Saruman the White not being part of The Hobbit he is actually a part of it he just never has dialog. When Gandalf leaves Bilbo and the dwarves in the book, he goes to converse with Saruman/the council about Dol Guldur and Saruron's deeds as of late.

So putting extra content where you see that going on isn't a break from the book at all, it actually helps as you don't see these things transpire in the book and helps the audience and expands the content.

Helacsaster, you're an idiot. If it wasn't for Jackson this movie wouldn't be being made. He made these books relevant with his movies. Nobody was even talking about making the Hobbit before that. What does he have to do better than what he did in the trilogy to prove he knows what he's doing. This movie will be amazing...and you sir are retarded.

I dont understand why people are making such big deals about certain actors reprising their roles for the Hobbit. They act as if Jackson is going to ruin the movie. After how amazing all 3 LOTR movies were, I have no doubt that the Hobbit will be equally as amazing, if not better
