Here is an excerpt from the official press release featuring Mitchell Leib's (President of Music and Soundtracks for Disney) take on why they decided to hire the duo to work on the highly anticipated fourth installment of the blockbuster franchise. "We’d always felt it a creative necessity that the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 4’ score have an original sound all its own and to distinguish itself from the first three films. With the inspiring addition of Rodrigo y Gabriela’s unique artistry under the direction of maestro Hans ‘Long John’ Zimmer, this iconic score franchise take its next step forward with an imaginative, fresh and individual new sound."

I can't say I'm completely surprised by this, considering Zimmer scored both Dead Man's Chest and At World's End.

Even though there should be new themes for the new characters, I hope the soundtrack isn't completely reimagined, because the scores for the pirates movies have been fantastic.

Also, first comment for me on the site :D

Zimmer's a jack-of-all-trades as far as movies go. From Batman Begins and The Dark Knight to the Pirates movies. That makes him all the more amazing!
