I hadn't even heard of this film to be released on January 21, 2014 until today. So, they don't have much for marketing, but that doesn't necessarily mean this independent film won't deliver on its effort to entertain a niche market of role-playing geeks and those that enjoy some good ol' fun... reminiscent of Army of Darkness and Shaun of the Dead horror style comedy. Yes, Summer Glau is doing her "thing" and for some, that is a good thing and for some that is a redundant thing. Depending on your taste, she isn't too hard on the eyes.

Call it brilliant or so bad that it could be good, but what say thee? A watch or pass?

From the Official Movie Site:
_______________________________________________________________________________________________

KNIGHTS OF BADASSDOM follows three best friends (Peter Dinklage, Steve Zahn and Ryan Kwanten) and dedicated LARPers (Live Action Role Players) as they take to the woods to reenact a dungeons and dragons-like scenario fresh out of the mythical Middle Ages. Trouble arises after they unwittingly conjure up some serious evil in the form of a blood-lusting Succubus, from the pits of hell.

Fantasy and reality collide on the Fields of Evermore in an all-out epic battle of make-believe wizards, demons and assorted mythical creatures. Their courage and friendship is put to the test as they attempt to vanquish the evil they have summoned. Will the group prove to simply be foam sword-wielding LARPers, or true “Knights of Badassdom?”

Yes, it was posted a long time ago on this site, but I missed it back then and tomorrow is the release with no mention of it here for quite some time.

For those that want to say this isn't comic book news, it falls under the realm of fantasy, which has been fair game for this site for a couple years now. ;-)

Conjuring up a succubus? I call that "a phone call to the ex". I think she's also a blood-lusting succubus from the second circle of hell.

Ciper@ Lol...I think there are many who are in the same boat as you are.

I have to admit, I laughed out loud a number of times watching this trailer. Definitely will garner a watch from me. It will be available digitally the first part of February.

I have never done the LARP thing, but have done my share of RPG video games in my younger days.

Is this the version that one of the producers basically hacked together or the real version the Director (Joe Lynch)intended?

I remember last year there was some drama around whether this film would even release at all due to some major falling out between the director and a producer.

"According to www.badassdom.com, the movie has been taken away from Lynch and given a different edit, which would seem to violate the contract signed by Lynch and the production company. Wade Bradley, the CEO of IndieVest, the production company for KNIGHTS OF BADASSDOM, is planning to screen the new edit this week. What once was a 90+ minute movie under Lynch's cut has become a truncated 70 minute version, and thus far Bradley has refused to allow Lynch to finish his work and edit the movie to his vision. Bradley has claimed that the movie went vastly overbudget (although he approved every spending invoice) and, if the anonymous writer of the Badassdom site is accurate, removed members of IndieVest who hepled promote and support Lynch's version of the film".

Darth@ After doing some quick research, it appears that it is the producer's cut of the film. I wasn't aware of the issues between the production company and Lynch. According to Fandango.com and other sources, the run time is 85 minutes. Still worth a watch to me.

It's a shame we dont get to see the full cut, but yes indeed, looks a lot of fun and well worth a watch :)
