The third episode of Prime Video's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is now streaming, and a certain development on the island kingdom of Númenor might just confirm a popular fan-theory about Galadriel's enigmatic travelling partner!

Because Halbrand (Charlie Vickers) is a brand-new character, there had been some speculation that he could be revealed as Sauron. While this now seems highly unlikely, it's looking increasingly possible that he will turn out to be The Dark Lord's most powerful servant.

While exploring with Elendil, Galadriel recognizes the same symbol Halbrand wears around his neck, and comes to the realization that he is actually the king (or the rightful heir, at least) of men of The Southlands. Judging by its position on the map, this area will ultimately encompass Mordor.

You see where we're going with this? We reckon Halbrand will ultimately be corrupted by Sauron and become the Witch King of Angmar, aka the Lord of the Nazgul.

All we really know about the Ringwraiths is that they were once "great kings of men" before being given nine rings of power by the Dark Lord and falling into shadow. The Witch King was the greatest of the nine, and would eventually stab Frodo on Weathertop, kill King Theoden during the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, before finally being destroyed by Eowyn.

There's a chance things will play out differently for Halbrand, but we'd put money on the volatile drifter betraying Galadriel and joining Sauron's forces at some point. It may not happen this season, but keep an eye out for any signs of darkness or doubt creeping in over the next few episodes!

I like a good long form story that plays out. I think they will start banding characters together like in the films.

I'm pretty sure Pharazon (Queen Regent Miriel's advisor) is the future Witch-King

@AscendedExtra - What makes you lean towards him?

@Deklipz - I actually goofed here. I confused Pharazon for someone else. According to lore, Pharazon is the king of Numenor that captures Sauron and is later corrupted by him, and he is ultimately responsible for the doom of Numenor.

After this episode it's painfully obvious Halbrand is Sauron. And it makes Galadriel look really UN-forsighted and unaware. This is Galadriel one of the only rulers to turn away Sauron when he came to her kingdom of Eregion bearing gifts in disguise as Annatar. She knew immediately in the literature that he was bad news. Here she goes boating with him, flirts with him, and now wants to team up with him! They are clearly going to use the reveal to bring her down to earth in regards to her obsession. Her obsession blinds her essentially. More and more it feels like they've made Galadriel Feanor. She even threatens the Queen regent of Numenor to take their ships that is a huge reference to the Kinslaying at Alqaulonde. She just feels like a completely different character. She feels like Feanor to me. She even pulls a knife in Elendil lol

BTW, the same leaker who revealed first that Galadriel would be bullied by kids in the first scene of the show also leaked Halbrand is revealed as Sauron in episode 8. He's not the Witch King. The leaks have been 110% accurate 3 episodes in thus far.

@McMurdo - [frick] you for spoiling a thing like that and please explain how the leaks have been 110% accurate.

@ElvenKingSlayer - go read the leaks. Ror already stated there is speculation he's Sauron. I'm simply saying everything in the leaks have matched up 3 episodes in.

@McMurdo - There is a BIG difference between spoiler speculation and confirmed leaks.

@McMurdo - May have confirmed it says in the headline versus your 110%. . .

@McMurdo - You are killing the fun speculation to a degree that your even telling after three episodes in what episode the truth will be revealed.

@McMurdo - Nah what I meant is how can the leaks go from 100% to 110% accurate?
McMurdo
McMurdo - 9/10/2022, 12:14 PM
@ElvenKingSlayer - 110 percent is just a play on the fact that it's been completely accurate thus far. We talk leaks here all the time I dunno if your new but Eternals, No Way Home, MoM. We were discussing the plots wholesale for months before release. Episode 8 hasn't happened yet so I can't spoil it. This is simply "speculation" considering we are 5 weeks away and no one has seen it.

Or have they 😳
