THE RINGS OF POWER Actor Reveals A Hint About The Stranger's Identity You Might Have Missed

At this point, the mysterious Meteor Man's identity is pretty clear (or is it?), and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power actor Daniel Weyman has pointed out a clue many viewers seem to have missed...

Last week's season finale of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power revealed Sauron's true identity, and while it also seemed to confirm that the mysterious Stranger was indeed Gandalf, the showrunners recently cast some doubt on the theory by suggesting that he might actually be one of the other Istari.

Even so, the Meteor Man's final line - "when in doubt, Elanor Brandyfoot, always follow your nose” - is almost word-for-word what Gandalf says to Merry when they're making their through the mines of Moria in The Fellowship of the Ring, so unless it's a major misdirect, we're betting our last bag of Longbottom Leaf that he will turn out to be Mithrandir.

One thing we do know for certain: he is one of the five Wizards, and actor Daniel Weyman has now revealed another clue to The Stranger's true nature and origin that many fans seem to have missed.

“I don’t know whether people have noticed, but the costume changes slightly over the course of the season,” Weyman tells TV Line. “The fact that [the robes] were surrounding The Stranger meant that they subtly changed and altered themselves,” he shares. “It’s like they all got pulled in, and so it goes from being a very big, wild costume to being more of a costume of an Istari.”

We certainly didn't notice this, but we'll be keeping an eye out during the inevitable re-watch!

The Stranger (or should we now refer to him as The Wizard?) and Nori appeared to be setting off for the land of Rhûn when they left the Harfoot tribe, so there's a decent chance we will learn more about the character early on in the second season.

Do you think The "Meteor Man" is Gandalf, or is Saruman a more likely possibility? Drop us a comment down below.

I think him being Gandalf is a misdirect. It would also take a big retcon to the lore to have Gandalf be around at this time.

While Saurumon also wouldn't have been around yet, of the two I'd much rarther it be him.

I do think it will be one of the Blue wizards.

I had guessed he was Gandalf when I saw the show… but you know how writers love to make a twist. I’m hoping we get to see Legolas in the next season or maybe the 3rd season. Who knows how long they’ll drag things out.

@slickrickdesigns - He wasn’t born yet

@slickrickdesigns - the thing is only the blue wizards were sent down this early in lore. They were sent down much earlier to circumvent Sauron’s rise and stoke men into rebelling against his rise in power

@campblood - again incorrect.

Tolkien had discussed implementing that into his planned ‘Fall of Numenor’ novel and discussed this in that letter that the showrunners dredged up that Christopher mined from his father’s archives in the late 80’s.

However, this was never put into play. The OFFICIAL canon (and quite frankly, I do not give a squat what the user-edited LOTRfandom and OneRing wiki sites say) that J.R.R. ACTUALLY wrote, is that the wizards all arrived together, 1000 years after the Last Alliance,, by boat, to the Grey Havens.

All other interpretations (including the one you just cited above) are ‘bonus deleted scenes’ that never made ifficial canon because J.R.R. never got them published.

What would be the chances that he turns out to be Tom Bombadil in the end?

I think they will never confirm who he really is because Amazon don't have the rights to any of the interesting options.

Unless Amazon obtains the rights at some point, in the end, he will be credited as "wizard."

Having Gandalf in this show would be kind of like making a serie about Moses, and then have Jesus show up and walk around on water.

To be honest, I do not think it would be too bad if he is Gandalf. Wrong, yes, but not too bad imo.

When ‘The Stranger’ disposes of Feminem, the power erupting from the staff is irradiated in blue light. Easter Egg or herring??
