Midknight35 Reviews

The highly anticipated Legion movie starring Paul Bettany. The apocalypse is occurring and instead of Hell on earth its Angels leading the Chaos. Can Legion live up to expectations?

Well I was very excited to see Legion and had good hopes for it. The movie delivers exactly what it promises, Michael (Paul Bettany) fending off hordes of possessed creatures to protect the unborn child of Charlie (Adrianne Palicki), the only hope for humanity. I will try and stay as spoiler free as possible but, if I do drop some stuff I apologize, so read with caution.

The movie starts out with Michael descending from heaven and cutting off his wings becoming human. They then show the people of the diner, some talk of the baby. You see Jeep (Lucas Black) and his affection for Charlie although it is not returned. Shit starts getting crazy soon as Michael acquires some weapons. And soon before you know it the apocalypse is happening. You can pretty much guess what happens with the rest of the movie from here.

One of the biggest bummers of the movie is the advertising really hurt the movie. The trailers showed just about every cool part in the movie and it really took away from any magic in the movie. Anything that would suppose to be cool or scary or what have you, you already knew what was going to happen. Save for some of the plot development (which wasn't much) you could watch the trailers alone and pretty much know how the movie will go. I for one believe if they went the route of advertising the movie by showing little of it in the trailer just explain the outlines of the plot then show Michael getting ready to take down some people it would leave a lot more mystery to the movie and draw a larger crowd. On top of that the acting was sub-par. I've never really like Lucas Black and his wooden acting and same Texas accent, in every movie. Dennis Quaid was unconvincing of a father who has lost his way and Tyrese Gibson, was well... Tyrese. Paul Bettany was decent but still didn't feel like the bad ass type. Kevin Durand was surprising with his voice, he is truly a jack of all trades. The thing that ruined the acting the most was the cliche one liners. "We're going out of business" is just an example of something my 10 yr old nephew could of wrote.

All in all it was a good popcorn flick and didn't disappoint with action. But what could be an epic tale of the destruction of man turned into another cheap action movie, with more bullets and one liners than plot development and characters the viewers feel emotionally tied to. The ending does leave the door open for the possibility of a sequel but I don't know if I would consider going to see a sequel. I would recommend catching this one on a Sunday matinee and save yourself a few extra bucks or wait until dvd. I give it a C+.

Thanks guys, I could of been a lot more brutal but, I tried to look at it as an avid movie goer's perspective not how most snobby Hollywood critics are. Plus I haven't contributed for quite some time, my last article was almost a year ago.
