Stephen King's The Stand Getting The Big Screen Treatment

The miniseries was great but the ending was terrible -SPOILERS- it literally breaks the rule of Deus Ex Macina (I may have misspelled that -I'm on my phone & can't check) hich means "Machines of (the) God(s)" meaning when something happens that can only be the act of a god and accounts for how a story wraps up and is usually used to wrap up plot holes and as a rule, should never be used. In The Stand (the miniseries, at least; I haven't read the book) it actually has the "hand of god" come down to stop what's about to happen (the missle).

Unfourtunate weak story telling (whoever was responsible for it) from what was otherwise a real good piece of work. Hopefuly a movie can do a better job of the wrap up.

the hand of god didnot stop the missle, in the book. The missle goes off creating a mushroom cloud and killing everyone there. Been awhile since I've seen the tv movie, but I think it was pretty much the same

With all the advancements in sfx since then this movie has potential to be great. Though I think it'll be difficult to find relpacements for some of the actors. Can't think of anyone else that could be Stu other than Gary Sinease, but I'm sure there's someone out there.

I'm definitely excited about this. I loved the book and mini-series. I didn't actually know they were doing a comic for it, I'm gonna have to check that out.

I've always wondered if Randall Flagg was the same person in THE STAND, THE DARK TOWER, and EYE'S OF THE DRAGON. It always seemed like a neat idea, but will that be ignored for the films?

They're doing a movie? How can you cram that story in a movie? The mini-series was toned down a lot, the most memorable thing about it being the intro in the first episode with Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear The Reaper". Hopefully they'll do justice to the book and use the same actor that ends up playing the man in black to play Flagg. That would be cool.

If they did that it would be frakkin awesome but it's doubtful. After all although they are essentially the same entity, they are supposed to be different aspects of him. I did enjoy the mni series but it wasn't consistent and there were some horribly cheesy bits too. I agree with Ry on Gary Sinise being a great Stu though.

Why are people so upset with the hand of god ending? we can believ what the devil does in the story but not what god can do in the story. I am excited for this, i love the book and the tv movie.

I've only read the expanded version of the book and there's a lot of information you wouldn't need in a film. I think it'd need to be the same length as Return of the King or Once Upon A Time in America, but still, you wouldn't need to include everything. Stephen King himself said he more or less based the original mini-series screenplay on the shorter version of the book as a lot of stuff that goes on is just character events and doesn't have anything to do with the overall plot. Subplots like Fran's wedlock pregnancy at the beginning, the inclusion of uneccassary character's like Fran's Mother and Rita Blakemoor, the female zoo scenario. The only thing I'd expand on is Trashcan Man's madness which is explored better in the book (this would be good as it is him who's partly responsible for the destruction of Flagg).
It's a fantastic book, I'm just saying as a film adaption there'd be a lot you could throw away without ruining the end product.

P.S. This isn't Marvel, no silly character crossovers.

AWESOME loved the book....the mini series I dont think did the book justice.....IS ANYONE GONNA BRING THE TALISMAN TO THE BIG SCREEN!!! That is another super awesome SK book....Blew my mind that book...lol

@ Spilox - First Marvel created a cinematic universe, than people expected a DC cinematic universe, now you want a Stephen King cinematic universe. C'mon, be serious. What is it with cinematic universes these days. People expect everyone to do it now, just because Marvel did it. Besides, they've already made a ton of Stephen King films that haven't acknowledged a "Kingverse".
I reckon in The Dark Tower they'll do away with the Flagg character and replace him with one of his other appearences; Walter or Marten. Flagg only has a minor part in The Dark Tower anyway (mainly getting eaten to death by Mordred). Glad your enjoying the book though dude (at least Nick gets laid in the book lol!!).

@ soberchimera61 - It'd be easier and a lot cheaper to condense the book into a four hour film. As I said earlier, a lot happens in the book that you wouldn't really need for a film. And with The Dark Tower on it's way and the ammount of attention that's gonna get (particularly as it's a Ron Howard project), I don't think they'd take the gamble of making another King series.

@ Spilox - Are we on about the same book here, I was talking about the novel of The Stand. I don't know if you're on about one of the comics/graphic novels of The Stand, or the 7th Dark Tower book. Help me out, I'm confused dude :D
