Benicio Del Toro's The Collector Returns In New Set Pic But Is It For GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL 2?

We've been told many times that Benicio Del Toro will not be reprising his Guardians of the Galaxy role as the Collector in Vol 2, but it appears he's slipped back into the role for... something.

Before the weekend, Benicio Del Toro was spotted in Los Angeles sporting a hairpiece that made him look fairly similar to his role as The Collector from Guardians of the Galaxy. However, considering writer/director James Gunn has stated on several occasions that the Elder of the Universe will not be returning for the 2017 sequel, Volume 2, which wrapped filming back in June, the actor is most likely shooting for another Marvel Studios project.

Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe might be hoping that Benicio Del Toro is at least filming a post-credits scene for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, if not for Doctor Strange or maybe even Thor: Ragnarok, which will introduce another Elder of the Universe known as The Grandmaster played by Jeff Goldblum. Unfortunately, those fans may be disappointed.

It was announced during San Diego Comic-Con last month that the Academy Award-winner will be reprising his role as The Collector for a new Guardians of the Galaxy attraction that is coming to Disneyland California in summer 2017. And that’s probably what Toro was filming when he was seen wearing the Collector’s hair in the Daily Mail set photos below.

Really didn't like this casting at first, but you know what, he did something interesting with a character that could have just been a plot point.

@Spock0Clock -
Except that's exactly what he was: a simple plot point. He didn't really add much to the film (besides Easter Eggs).

@Spock0Clock -
Hopefully they explore his comic book history in future MCU films, but until that happens, there's not really much to say about him (yet).

@Darkknight2149 - He was one of the best parts of the movie.

How? I like the actor and I like the character from the comics. However, he didn't do anything in the film but give exposition and introduce the Infinity Gem, yet everyone is talking about him like he deserves an Academy Award when he was barely even in the film.

@Darkknight2149 - He added personality and texture where they might otherwise not be. See: Martin Freeman in Civil War. A tiny part but he brings a charisma that makes you wonder where he'll show up next.

@CapnSquintyEyes - I forgot Martin Freeman was in the film tbh

@Darkknight2149 - I didn't say he deserved an Academy Award and I haven't seen anyone else who has said that either. He simply WAS one of the best parts of the movie. VERY entertaining, witty, flamboyant, and enigmatic. I simply have a taste for those kinds of characters as a writer myself, especially if they have a hint of nefariousness to them. It doesn't matter how long he was there or how much he contributed to the plot. It just worked and I enjoyed it. The character was a high-point for me and I'd like to see a great deal more of him, not that that is likely to happen, but I hope we do see him again.

Seems fair. I was wondering, since he played such a small role. Also, I never said that people literally believe he deserves an Oscar. I said people people are talking about him "as if" he deserves an Oscar, which is a hyperbole for "people are heavily praising him."

Hated the character when I first saw him in the Thor 2 after credits scene. But Del Toro brought soemthing unique to the role and I really like him now.

I'm sure he'll play somewhat of a significant role in IW since in that Thor 2 tag he said "1 down, 5 to go" when he received the Reality Stone.

He'll be back....hopefully soon...but he's an elder of the universe, and given that Goldblum is playing another one, there will be SOMETHING that unites them in IW at the very latest.

@MattBellissimo - Think Goldblum's going to get blued?

(Also, check out that stunning painting. Somebody really talented has a great sense of humor.)

@Spock0Clock - 1) Amazing painting

2) I believe another interview confirmed that Goldbum is not blue, just regular skinned.

@Spock0Clock - Doubt it. at SDCC they showed concept art of the Grandmaster and he wasn't blue. He just looked like Jeff Goldblum in a costume.

Maybe he and Grandmaster are going to either warn or be apart of Thanos' Infinity Stone search

I wanted to point something out from Doctor Strange. Every time he uses a spell, the sigils come out different colors. They are mainly an orange color or green.

I noticed that in the trailers, every time the sigil is green, time is being manipulated. You can see that in this still. The latest trailer shows him conjuring up a mirror-like wall that shows himself a few minutes in the future and his sigil is green.

There is another scene in the new trailer that shows him fighting Mad Mikkelsen's character, and in that scene the world around him is repairing, but Strange has a green sigil activated with his left arm during the fight.

It's pretty obvious that the green sigil is the magic being siphoned from the Time Stone through the Eye of Agamotto.
