Much to the delight of her legions of fans, Zoe Saldana will soon be returning to the big screen in two massive CBM/sci-fi blockbusters. First up, she'll reprise the role of Uhura in Star Trek Beyond, and then next year she'll be back with the rest of the intergalactic A-holes as Gamora in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
The actress was recently interviewed by Allure (pics from her photoshoot below), and though she wasn't asked about either of those movies, she did have an interesting response to the backlash she received when she played Nina Simone. Many felt that Saldana wasn't "black enough" and far too attractive to play the late jazz icon in the movie Nina, but Zoe doesn't see it that way at all.
"There's no one way to be black. I'm black the way I know how to be. You have no idea who I am. I am black. I'm raising black men. Don't you ever think you can look at me and address me with such disdain. I never saw her as unattractive. Nina looks like half my family! But if you think the [prosthetic] nose I wore was unattractive, then maybe you need to ask yourself, What do you consider beautiful? Do you consider a thinner nose beautiful, so the wider you get, the more insulted you become?"
