GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 Star Chukwudi Iwuji Reveals Alternate Ending For High Evolutionary - SPOILERS

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 star Chukwudi Iwuji has teased an alternate ending for the threequel, strongly hinting that The High Evolutionary actually survived his final encounter with Rocket Raccoon.

In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, we learned that The High Evolutionary was responsible for Rocket's creation. One of the MCU's most despicable big bads, the final battle revealed Rocket had destroyed the villain's face when he escaped years earlier, a fitting punishment for Counter-Earth's creator.

However, when it came time to deliver The High Evolutionary's final punishment, Rocket Raccoon decided not to pull the trigger. Why? Because he's a Guardian of the Galaxy, of course.

We're assuming the threequel's primary antagonist died when his ship exploded, but actor Chukwudi Iwuji has now strongly hinted that not only did the evil scientist survive, but there may even be a deleted scene revealing his fate.

"Well, let me just put it this way. I'm hoping you'll see an extended version or maybe an alternate ending, you know, that we certainly did film," the actor teased in an interview with ComicBook.com. "I mean the whole point in Marvel is that unless you see someone die they haven't necessarily died and even if they do die what does that mean in the Multiverse, right?"

"But, the point is that Rocket doesn't shoot me. They make a point of saying why don't you kill him and he says, 'No, I'm not going to kill him.' And you don't actually see me go down with the ship. So, I'll just leave it at that."

If The High Evolutionary survived this encounter with the Guardians, it suggests Marvel Studios has future plans for him. Perhaps he'll come looking for revenge or, alternatively, target some of his other enemies from the comic books like the Fantastic Four, Silver Surfer, or X-Men.

Given what an evil SOB this character was, it's almost a shame to think he lived, but Iwuji is a powerhouse talent we'd definitely like to see more of in the MCU.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is now playing in theaters.

The High Evolutionary was a great villain.

The way I see it Marvel needs a strong new villain to replace Kang if Majors is out. Maybe turn the High Evolutionary into „the true Kang“ who looks different because he’s just so special and open „Kang Dynasty“ with the Evolutionary destroying the council of Kangs (CG replicas of Majors) with a quick swoop and consume their combined power.

@Blergh - They can just recast Kang, without making a big in-universe deal out of it.

@FinnishDude - people overthink this shit way too much also making HE a Kang is stupid

@ShimmyShimmyYA - It’s rumored the Beyonder is going to be a Kang variant too. It’s not that out there.

@CassianAndor - I think that’s slightly more excusable than the HE being one

Good. He can be an Avengers level villain if need be.

@GhostDog - reading through Hickman’s F4 run rn and seeing Iwuji’s High Evolutionary go toe-to-toe with Driver’s Reed would be a delight

Gunn already confirmed he is not making any "extended cuts", also, the point was that Rocket choose to not kill him, not if the High Evo survived or not...
This character has no reason to exist if he is not attached to Rocket, and I hope this dude doesnt jump into the "lets make the High Evo the ACTUAL big bad of Phase 6" if Disney decides that based on fans demands (fans that, as always, dont know what they want).
Hope we see him in the DCU.

“(fans that, as always, dont know what they want)“

What about the fans who spoke out against Sonic’s first terrible design?

@TheHumanSpider2 - dude, I've seen phase 4. Listening to what fans want can only improve things.

Also, really don't see why the high evolutionary can't work without rocket. He was needed for rocket's story, but outside of one experiment he didn't even mind blowing up I don't see him being needed for the high evolutionary. Also, rocket is still there, and Gunn was optimistic about a new guardians movie with the new team we saw at the end and a new director.

@Origame - It was his only motivation, he obsesion, without that, he was the generic villain of the week.
Rocket wont be back in 5 minutes (if he comes backs at all).

Also, things like the multiverse? yeah, fans's idea.

@TheHumanSpider2 -

Is that how a man concedes or should I provide more examples?

I’d say fans have generally a much better pulse on content than lots of people in Hollywood do (especially in this day and age).

Also, the multiverse wasn’t a fan idea. It was a studio idea because they wanted to make hype and get butts in the theater by bringing back old actors - Jackman in DP3, Patrick Stewart in MOM, Fake Quicksilver in WandaVision, etc.

There wasn’t one fan who asked for a quicksilver-Boner fakeout. Clearly studio decision making. Neither can I think of a fan who wanted black bolt, reed, and Xavier to be killed in T Minus 50 seconds by Elizabeth Olsen.

Disney proves they have no idea what fans want by just looking at their last Star Wars trilogy.

He was a great villain. I’d be good with him returning if it made sense.

Hell yes. He's one of the best Marvel villains I've seen. I'd love to see him go up against other characters.

Haven't seen the movie, but I've been hearing a lot of praise on his performance....almost as if storytelling and performances matters more then skin colour

@KaptainKhaos - "almost as if storytelling and performances matters more then skin colour"... who said it didn't? You're seeing a political issue where there isn't any.

That’s what I assumed, that he got away. It was weird the Guardians basically beat him down to the ground (and it’s well deserved) but they don’t kill him, but leave him on a ship that’s ready to explode.

Kind of like a Batman Begins moment. He deserves to die but they just don’t want to be the one to “pull the trigger”

IMHO One of the few really annoying/bad bits of GOTG Volume 3 was Rocket not killing High Evolutionary because "he's a guardian of the galaxy". I get the movie's whole point on how people deserve second chances and not just to kill everyone who antagonizes you thus why I have no problem with Groot letting Adam Walrock live but there's also shown to be exceptions who are a-holes you can't reform and need to take out for good. Such as Ronan, or Ego or Thanos. Like someone like Ego probably is a bigger threat technically but he had more humanity and goodness in him heck even Thanos did then the High Evoltuionary so why in the hell is the High Evolutionary not being killed? I hope someone asks that question to James Gunn pointing out the other movies so he can't give that "cause he's a guardian" dumb excuse about it.

Turning the guardians into these pacifist at points of the story feels forced. No idea why Rocket would blast him in the head. It's forcing character growth, didn't feel natural to me. Also characters are really selective about their killing.

@EgoEgor - It did feel weird after doing Mortal Kombat fatalities on a hallway full of mooks, but I think the point of being the bigger man and not choosing revenge kinda works, it does feel like they should have cuffed him and taken him prisoner, rather than letting him die in an exploding ship, to really get the point across.

Unpopular opinion but I think Chukwudi Iwuji is very overated. Didn't enjoy his performance in Peacemaker and as much as I enjoyed GOTG3, I thought his performance here was forced, over the top, and even hammy in places. Certainly not the worst villain by a long shot however.

Marvel basically made him….

🤷‍♂️🤣

The left him weakened, beaten and bleeding on the floor barely able to move in an exploding ship. I don't think he survived, but then again the ship took like another half hour to blow up, plenty of time for him to get up and escape.
