James Gunn FIRED By Disney; Will No Longer Direct GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3

In news which is honestly hard to comprehend, it's been revealed today that James Gunn has been fired by Disney and will no longer direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Find out the shocking details here.

In recent months, James Gunn's Twitter feed has been very political in nature and so it didn't really surprise anyone when some old Tweets of his relating to controversial topics like rape and paedophilia came to light this week in what appeared to be an effort to discredit his often divisive opinions. While the filmmaker was quick to apologise for past remarks, it seems Disney was having none of it.

Earlier today, Gunn closed his account and his final Tweet was as follows: "Many people who have followed my career know when I started, I viewed myself as a provocateur, making movies and telling jokes that were outrageous and taboo. As I have discussed publicly many times, as I’ve developed as a person, so has my work and my humor." Despite that, the studio has fired him.

That means he will no longer be taking the helm of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, a movie which was expected to begin shooting in the fall for a planned 2020 release date. In a statement confirming the news, Disney said: "The offensive attitudes and statements discovered on James’ Twitter feed are indefensible and inconsistent with our studio’s values, and we have severed our business relationship with him." Whether this means his script will not be used obviously remains to be seen.

Gunn was expected to conclude the Guardians trilogy with Vol. 3 and was being eyed to spearhead a new wave of cosmic movies for Marvel Studios. The franchise's future is now in doubt and it will be interesting seeing if Marvel decides to leave the team on the shelf or let someone else take a crack at them. We'll be sure to keep you updated with further details on the situation when we can.

I love James Gunn, his dedication to the fans, the material etc was 100% needed in MARVEL. But, Disney is right. If he isn't even intelligent enough to:
A. delete that shit
B. get out in front of it

they cant have their brand associated with it, and most of it WASN'T FUNNY... Nah, let me correct that, NONE OF IT WAS FUNNY. It was all disgusting bullshit. Jokes about [frick]ing little kids aint jokes. And I am 100% about "COMEDIANS shouldn't have to censor themselves", but he was not a comedian, more like a coked out, suicidal shit talker. Like when a guy gets rejected by a woman so he calls her an "Ugly Whore" out of spite. That is what this felt like.

I am sad to see him go. He's a legit director, and he seems to have a lot more peace now. But... this is definitely bad.

@PBIRD - He did delete many of his tweets...lacking the knowledge that everything on the internet is forever. If you say it, own it, if you can't own it, don't say it, and just to be safe, get off the internet.

Disney looks idiotic here. They hired him, entrusted him with two 9-digit budgeted films, and didn't do their due diligence checking him out first? What morons.

@blackandyellow - Holding James Gunn to a standard that MOST late night and stand up comedians are not held to is the nadir of hypocrisy.

That STD-infected WHORE Michelle Fox said the most HORRIBLE things about President Trump and his supporters in front of the White house Press Corps Dinner. ZERO CONSEQUENCES.

James Gunn made jokes TEN YEARS AGO and gets axed from directing one of MArvel Studios' most popular franchises.

Hypocrisy much?

Et Tu, Mickey?

@bropous - lol, of all the nasty and outright disgusting things he's said about people ON RECORD and gone completely unchecked for, you're mad at that somebody called him a couple of names?

Hypocrisy, indeed. Y'all are so overly-sensitive. Lol

@PBIRD - You're right, none of it was funny. In fact, much of it seemed reflective of some personal...issue or something. To the point where I hope he never shares the changing room at a gym frequented by tween males. Seriously comes off as a pedo.

@rds130 - No, I'm deeply offended that he made some jokes ten years ago, years before he started working for Disney, was truly and comp0letely vetted at the time (you think they did NOT vet him?), he apologized for any offensive things he had said or written in his younger years, and now, now that some so-called conservative ratbag (I'm conservative, and this dude is a son of a bitch) digs into his past statements because he hates what Gunn says about Trump and his supporters, dredges up some stale and dead statements, and now Disney fires Gunn?

Look. I love President Donald J Trump. I am a Trump supporter. Gunn has said some horrible things about people like me, here and now. I don't want him fired for it. If he wants, I'd debate him in a public forum, but I'm not going to be a pusswad and push for the guy to be fired for his opinions.

He made jokes TEN YEARS AGO and does not do ANYTHING like that these days. He has grown and matured as a human being. I am a sucker for redemption. And, I also recognize the hypocrisy that James Gunn will be fired for jokes he made ten years ago, yet people are making disgusting jokes right now and are not being fired from their own jobs.

Free speech and freedom from hypocrisy, and freedom from our pasts that we have seen as wrong and have apologized and moved forward and have proved ourselves to be better people now than we were then.

THOSE are my points.

I've done some f*cked up shit in my life, and I would hate for some employer now come to me and fire me for things I said ten years ago. To quote Oingo Boingo:

"I'm not the same man I was before..."

THAT is GROWTH. And REDEMPTION.
