Fright Night Flops at the Box Office, + My Review

Even though Fright Night had several good reviews and a 74% approval rating at Rotten Tomatoes, they failed to produce good numbers at the box office. According to Deadline, the film took in 8.3 M from 3,114 theaters. The film's budget was around $30 million. This is a significant loss.
I'm not sure why the numbers are unexpectedly low. I'm not sure if it had to do with the cast of David Tennant, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Colin Farrell or maybe horror fans thought they were in store for another Twilight rip off (which it wasn't). Perhaps it could of been the fact that horror fans are getting tired of having 3D movies.
Apparently, Gillespie is receiving flax from everyone claiming that he stayed too true to the original. I saw the movie last Saturday and I enjoyed it. I felt it was much different compared to the original. Just like all the other remakes, it had some of the original elements and also had different elements. I felt it was better than the original.
Apparently, remakes like the "Ring" or "the house on the haunted hill" can suck, but make all kinds of movies at the box office vs. a movie that actually stays true to the original with a couple of different elements that make the film good, absolutely flops. I guess nothing makes sense now days.
