Hellboy director Guillermo del Toro is in the UK shooting his long-awaited Frankenstein movie. He's assembled an incredible cast which includes Jacob Elordi as Frankenstein's monster, Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein, with Mia Goth, Christoph Waltz, Lars Mikkelsen, Charles Dance, and Ralph Ineson among others.

The project, which is expected to be a Netflix exclusive, originally starred The Amazing Spider-Man's Andrew Garfield as the monster before the actor was forced to pull out due to scheduling conflicts caused by last year's Hollywood strikes.

Now, though, we have a first look at Isaac on set as Isaac's Victor; as expected, this is indeed a period piece and will be presented in del Toro's own unique style. Plot details for the movie have not been revealed, though we know the filmmaker penned the screenplay alongside J. Miles Dale, who served as a producer on del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities for Netflix.

Del Toro has spent the better part of two decades trying to bring Frankenstein back to the screen and has talked repeatedly about wanting to put his spin on the classic Mary Shelley novel.

As we're sure you're aware, that follows Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant but egotistical scientist who brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation.

Check out some photos from the Frankenstein set in the X posts below (via FearHQ.com).

"It’s been amazing," Goth, who will also star in Marvel Studios' Blade, recently said of working on the movie. "It’s everything that I wanted it to be and more. I love Guillermo, I love working with him, he’s an incredible director, everyone knows that, but he’s also such a wonderful person. And I’m very excited."

Del Toro previously said of the project, "It’s a movie I have been wanting to do for 50 years since I saw the first Frankenstein. I had an epiphany, and it’s basically a movie that required a lot of growth and a lot of tools that I couldn’t have done 10 years ago. Now I’m brave or crazy enough or something, and we’re gonna tackle it."

"I dream I can make the greatest Frankenstein ever, but then if you make it, you’ve made it. Whether it’s great or not, it’s done. You cannot dream about it anymore. That’s the tragedy of a filmmaker," he continued. "You can dream of something but once you’ve made it, you’ve made it. That’s it. You landed a 10 or you landed a 6.5 but you were at the Olympics already, and you were judged."

Frankenstein doesn't currently have a confirmed release date.

I wish Del Toro never passed on making the Universal monster movies.

@Spoken - he was up for it

Then they turned down his creature from the black lagoon

Then his creature ended up being a big hit

@dracula - On the contrary, Del Toro actually admitted he did pass it up.

"“I’ve said no to things that are enormous, and I’ve never looked back. The only time I repent I didn’t do something was in 2007 when Universal, in an incredibly gentle and beautiful manner, said, ‘Do you want to take over the Monster Universe?’ And they gave me the reins of several properties, and I didn’t do it. That I repent, so this is a confessional moment, I repent.”

Idk about the sideburns but I kinda like the rest of the look , this Victor’s got drip lol…

Anyway , it seems like the rest fits Del Toro’s gothic style which is good so looking forward to it!!.

My only real reservation is Jacob Elordi as The Monster out of this incredible cast…

That’s mainly because I haven’t really seen his work and found Andrew Garfield to be a more exciting choice before he had to drop out but will give him a shot.

@TheVisionary25 - i worked on this and i will say as far as the monster goes, i cannot picture garfield in that role. They either changed the look of the monster completely, or it would have not fit as well as it does now.. I love garfield but i cannot picture him in this role at all..Take that as you will..

I am so hyped for this , I just hope it’s another Shape of Water/Pan’s Labyrinth, and not another Crimson Peak (all style and not much substance).

When Guillermo is on top of his game he’s EXCELLENT. But like all directors he has his flaws sometimes.

Also I hope Issac looks better in the movie cause that’s not a really good pic lol

So, this adaptation along with Maggie Gyllenhaal's "The Bride". Hollywood is funny about similar properties simultaneously.

Just my opinion: Man, am I getting tired of seeing Oscar Issac and Pedro Pascal in everything...

@DrDReturns -

Get used to them. These 2 highly popular Hispanic screen stars both have the looks and charisma to match their outstanding acting skills.

They both have excellent leading man screen presence if used well by their directors/cinematographers.

So i worked on this movie before they moved countries, and gotta say this is a vastly different look then what i saw him in.. Dont know if i am feeling this part of the wardrobe but what i saw him in was much more in line with how i picture it, and it looked great.. Before anybody asks, no i cannot say anything except it was an absolute blast and the attention to detail is astounding... Del toro is a gem of a human, Oscar is just as charming and fun as he is in interviews, and i cannot wait to seethe full finished film... Frankenstein is my favourite film of all time, and i have very high expectations. From what i have seen, it blew me away..

@bluedragon77 - When you say it's your favorite film do you mean the James Whale version or the Kenneth Branagh version (can't imagine any other version being your favorite)?

Personally I love Bride of Frankenstein (James Whale). The vfx in that 1935 movie are mind-blowing.
