TRUE BLOOD: HBO Drives A Stake Through The Heart Of Planned Reboot

We have some disappointing news for those looking forward to a new take on True Blood, as HBO has decided not to move forward with its planned reboot of the popular vampire drama series...

We first heard that HBO was planning a reboot of its popular vampire drama series, True Blood, back in 2020, and updates have been few and far between since. Now, reports are coming in that the revival has been officially staked.

In fact, According to Variety, the project never fully got off the ground in the first place.

HBO and HBO Max content CEO Casey Bloys tells the trade that, although some scripts had been written and a certain amount of progress had been made, nothing ever really came together and the reboot was only ever in the early stages of development.

While this iteration of a True Blood reboot now appears to have been shown a cross, it sounds like HBO hasn't completely closed the coffin on a future attempt to resurrect the series.

The original True Blood ran for seven seasons between 2008 and 2014, and was wildly popular... until it wasn't. The first few seasons were critically-acclaimed and drew huge viewing numbers, but most fans would agree that the show took a steep dip in quality heading into its fourth run.

What do you guys make of this news? Were you looking forward to a True Blood reboot, or are you happy to hear that it's now resting in peace? Drop us a comment down below, and keep an eye on FearHQ.com for all your horror updates.

Good, the shows last few seasons sucked ass anyway... first few seasons were really well done though.

Seasons 1-3 of True Blood and 1-4 of Walking Dead were a great time to be a fan of undead fiction.

I had no idea they were considering this. I'm pretty sure the first 3 seasons still hold up by todays standards though, so just watch that again lol

I loved Joe Mangianello as Alcide. I know a lot of fans were pretty neutral on him, and I'm not familiar with how he should be from the novels, but Joe was a perfect addition to the cast halfway into the show.

That's the one thing that baffled me about this reboot announcement. I thought the casting and acting in this show was great for the most part, and think any reboot with recasting involved could easily become another "Eric/Alcide ordered from Wish/we have Eric/Alcide at home" meme.

First four seasons were great. I probably won't ever rewatch anything that came after those.

This article’s pun is dated 3/5. Decent but not an all time great.

Never got into this show. It always appealed more to my wife than me. Sexy vampires aren’t an interesting genre. It’s probably a good thing they aren’t bringing it back, I doubt there would be much interest.

@mountainman - I was hesitant to watch the show when it came out (kinda the same reason, not interested in sexy vampires), but was convinced to watch when everyone I knew was raving about it. First 3 seasons are fantastic. Not perfect, but very, very good. Season 1 was the best, then the it gradually declined. After season 3, the show took a nosedive.

If you're into (intentionally) trashy horror, Tales from the Crypt style mood and gore, you'll love the first 3 seasons. First season even features a massive Tales from the Crypt homage.

By season 4, the horror tone was dropped, bad CGI effects were added, and the show felt a lot more like Buffy than Tales from the Crypt. Much more action and cheesy emotion, much less horror and suspense.

@keithvw - Maybe I never gave it enough of a chance. I watched parts of episodes here and there with my wife and it never hooked me in. I believe the stuff I saw was early in asesó 1.

I literally just rewatched this series, finishing just a couple weeks ago. I enjoyed revisiting it.

This is fine. It doesn’t need to be rebooted.

Honestly, if they were to do anything, I'd say a side show.

The first few seasons of the show were pretty good, and I'm not a fan of the sexy vampire thing. But after that it got REALLY bad IMO.

I tried to rewatch it again, but only got so far before the cheese destroyed it for me.

It was a great show until Eric turned into a good guy, Eric was a good villain, Jason was funny, Anny Paquin is damn hot, True Blood had many cool characters

Loved this show when I was like 14 but then the quality turned into hot, radioactive godzilla diarrhea for whatever reason. Anyway, the books are better, imo.

totally enjoyed the books...enjoyed the series, so long as i stopped expecting it to follow the books...loved that the men got to be just a nude and the women...never watched the last few seasons due to lots of moving around...will just buy the series and finally finish it...a "reboot" would kind of suck...unless they intend to follow the books
