Frankenstein will hit the big screen! ........AGAIN!

In an era of remakes, Frankenstein will be next. Hopefully we will see a grade A actor helm the role as Del Toro did for wolfman. Now With this, Wolfman, and the remake of Dracula on it's way, the three can team up and kill all twilight fans!

From Variety:

"The project places the doctor -- a socially prominent and successful businessman -- and his super-human original creation Deucalion in modern-day New Orleans. The story centers on a pair of street-smart detectives who encounter Deucalion while investigating a murder, leading them to a bizarre array of "engineered" humans.

Three titles in Koontz's series have been published, with the fourth scheduled for release in June.

Winter and Botwick are aiming to launch a franchise. "These books have enough twists and turns to keep the public coming back to the theaters for many years to come," the duo said.

"Frankenstein" will be produced by Winter and Botwick along with 1019 Entertainment exec Whitney Thomas.

That's all folks. What do you think? Too much rebooting? I think yes, but I'm still excited for the horror genre to get back to it's roots. I think we truly can thank Twilight for ruining Vampires and werewolves for this sudden redemption of of unholy monsters. Let's just hope they leave Godzilla out of this

These books are NOT your typical Frankenstein novels. These are more Sci-Fi based and only refer back to the original novel. That being said, the first two books were great! The third...not so much. Glad to hear there's a fourth, maybe it will clear a few things up.

Yeah i dont mind a new take on old ideas though. I'm just hoping they keep the horror genre on the track its at with better acting and less of a B-List status. We had justin Long in Drag me to hell last year, Benicio, Leo in shutter island. Im just hoping it continues on the main stream path. I love the low budget indie horror flicks as much as the next guy, but getting real production value with my spooks, Im all for that

I agree. Love me some good horror flicks. I wouldn't call this series a remake though...I'd label it as bring these characters to the big screen again, lol. Did you read these books?
blankofthedead
blankofthedead - 2/17/2010, 1:14 PM
Nope! lol.. But regardless of how new these books make him. Frankenstein is frankenstein. i'll probably read the books if I like what i see in the first trailer. I just hope the classic monster isnt too different, just modern and more inventive.

Sorry but in the title did you mean "Inspires"? I wish they would bring these guys out in movies the way they are suppose to be. Not some teeny boppers wet dream version of what they should be...

Has no one realized that the info given is the description for "Frankenstein" (2004), with Vincent Perez and Parker Posey? Perez was Deucalion, and Posey was one of the detectives. It was quite good, and was intended as the pilot to a t.v. show. Of course, this was also true with the Adam Baldwin "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" (1999), and it never progressed into a series either. The next Frankentein will be helmed by Guillermo Del Toro, and possibley feature Doug Jones as the Creature. It won't be a re-telling of the creation story, but instead will be an adventure story revolving around the Creature.

We gotta get a:

Mummy Reboot

Gill-Man

Invisible man

a good Dracula film

Mr Hyde

an American Dorian Gray film

The Phantom of the Opera???.. no.. forget about it

Itll be cool if they could bring all of them in and do like a Marvel Avengers thing
ecksmanfan
ecksmanfan - 2/17/2010, 10:53 PM
@Optimus- I've seen that one. It wasn't terrible. I think this one is planned to be bigger budget and more "mainstream" instead of SyFy/television quality. At least I hope so.

@bigshow- I doubt we'll get a Mummy reboot. Those were way too successful. Invisible man could be interesting and a decent Jekyl & Hyde film would rock. There is one in development starring none other than Keanu Reeves...so that'll suck. Dorian Grey would also be good.

Blank- It doesn't just look like Marv, if you read it (by clicking on the pic) you'll see that it's a comic of Marv if he was actually a frankenstein private eye. It's a really cool comic actually. Lakeshore has already said they'd make the movie.

@Shaman: I was going to mention "I,Frankenstein". Kevin is a great guy....just so you know.

@Oscuro: Indeed, it is. Vlad the Impaler. The man loved to "display" his enemies. *evil laugh*.

I'm a day late and a dollar short on this one but I've read the books and this has been a tv mini-series already. It is a hypothetical "if the doc found a way to keep himself alive until the present day how would that effect his opinion of man kind, how would he keep his identity secret, how would he e mass and hold onto his growing fortune

Wasnt there a made for tv movie pilot released for this? It stared Vincent Perez..
Optimist18
Optimist18 - 2/18/2010, 1:11 PM
@BryEl, When I said the Creature, I meant the Frankenstein Monster, not the Gill-Man. Sorry about that. Whenever I talk about Frankenstein I always try to make people understand that Frankenstein is the name of the doctor and that the Monster has no name. It makes his tragedy all the more worse, because without a name, he has no identity.

WulfComicFan

Just so you all know, this is NOT a reboot! This is an orginal take on an old story, plus he starts up after Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. The only reason you could call this a reboot is because they tried to do this story for tv and it BOMBED! It was horrible, Vincent Perez (The Crow 2: City of Angels) plays Duecalion, and Parker Posey plays Detective Carson O'Connor and Michael Goldberg plays Michael Madison.Second rate acting and they didnt even do the whole sotry, just book one. If the movies are done PROPERLY then they will be amazing! Can't wait for the next three books to come out.
WulfComicFan
WulfComicFan - 2/18/2010, 1:35 PM
@ Optimist, did I really read your words corect in saying the tv pilot wasn't bad? Atrocious acting and a butchered story is good? Wow, I wish I could just sit back and let em screw stuff up so bad it doesnt resemble the inspiration and say "It was good." I challenge you to read the books, then watch thazt crap again and tell me you still liked it.

I knew this was going to happen. I remember callin it a week or so ago. The movie Mary Shelleys Frankensten with De Niro was really good. I don't know if they could top that but I'm sure they will try. Bram Stoker's Dracula was really good too. The original monster movies are classic's I'm sure they will be made and remade for years to come.

@WulfComicFan, I'll look into reading the books. I was just sharing my opinion.
