IRON MAN II - Mandarin Rumor Mongering

IRON MAN II - Mandarin Rumor Mongering

Entertainment Weekly is experimenting with bull@#%*! articles now--openly STARTING rumors they KNOW are false, saying Johh Cho, the actor from Harold and Kumar, and also Sulu in the new Star Trek movie will be playing The Mandarin in Iron Man 2.

This must be happening because of all the traction they're getting out of the obviously false Batman rumors that have been coming, one after another, on the web.

Whatever you do, DON'T believe this one. EW itself is debunking this horse@#%*! in the very article they are spreading it in:

This from EW...
"Does that sound real enough to start a casting rumor? Feels like it to me. After all, was there any more than that to go on when people started talking about Tim Robbins in Iron Man 2, Eddie Murphy as the Riddler in Batman 3, or Rachel Weisz as Catwoman in the same?"

I thought the asian looking guy with the ring who seemed to get blown up in Iron Man was going to come back as the Mandarin, but that's just me.

BUBBADUDE -

Me too, and I don't think John is a good choice. He's funny as sh!t, but doesn't have the experience to pull off Mandarin. Plus, he's WAY TOO YOUNG!

Hey guys what are your thoughts on who should be the Mandarin (if, indeed there is one)? Someone had a great pick awhile ago, I can picture the dude's face but can't think of anything he's in...

The guy who played the chinese guy who was thought to be Ra's Al Ghul in Batman Begins that died near the beginning. He looks the part. But then again all chinese people look the same. Ha! Just kidding.

That guy from mortal kombat is a Z grade actor at best and that is being generous. I am pretty sure they will go for a more credible casting choice. I am putting my money in the Andy Lau basket. He is a great actor, and more than looks the part.

dear god
i love this actor in comedies but if he ruins Iron Man II i will have to go on a sniper mission.
i love hearing rumors about comic book movies but blatant lies that have no base are just ridiculous.
Entertainment Weekly, I smite thee.

Anybody here seen Mongol? Tadanobu Asano, who played Genghis Khan was really good. But this role could go to anybody. Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa's latest role is Heihachi Mishima, for the Tekken Movie. Ugh. But at least Uwe Bol isn't doing it!!
CrookedJaw
CrookedJaw - 12/22/2008, 11:15 PM
That's actually a good pic Tucson, but an obvious one would also be Chow Yun Phat. Someone of that acting stature, as well as that age would be a great pic.

Chow Yun Fat My Pick

Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa is too old for that role now.

Well, bottom line is many actors can look the part and act it well but you guys have to admit, Shang Tsung is pretty much the same character but with a different skin tone! Cary "captures" the true essence of the Mandarin but you guys have all great picks! Putting aside Cary, Andy Lau is the best one so far! Cudos Lenny!

As for Chow Yun Fat, John Lone and Tabanobu Asano, they're good but not "Andy Lau" good.

What about Ken Watanabe? y'know, "The Last Samurai", "Memoirs of a Geisha" and he was also in "Batman Begins" for five minutes as Ra's al Ghul's decoy.

I think he could do the roll justice.

off the topic but still news

The Eddie Murphy rumor was funny, but this is too far. Hmm...I think Chow Yun Fat might be a little overused by now to do the part, albeit he would do a good job

Personally, I hope they drop the whole idea of Mandarin as the Iron Man II villain...I think it's a lame choice.

FoxForce5 - 12/23/2008, 11:41 AM
I can't believe no one's mentioned George Takei, sure he's Japanese-American and not Chinese, but then again John Cho's Korean and not Japanese like Sulu so what the hell. I guess Hollywood really dose think all Asians look alike.

By the way, Ken Watanabe; also Japanese.
WeaponX
WeaponX - 12/23/2008, 12:21 PM
Jude, I know he's Japanese. Wolverine is Australian, Magneto is English, Nightcrawler is Scottish, The Joker was Australian and Batman is Welsh. So really, what does it matter, if they all did a good job? Let's try and not make it a race issue and focus on talent.

Either Stephen Cho, or Yun Chow Fat.
Shaman

Yeah, you got a good one there WeaponX. Watanabe would be a very good pick as well :) We seem to have three great actors of three different generations here. So the producers will be the ones to decide where they're taking this character.

Young: Andy Lau
Mature: Ken Watanabe
Older: Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa

And for the reccord, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa would be a great Heihachi Mishima in Tekken. I don't know where some people get off saying he's not a good actor, he was the only decent one in Mortal Kombat. His performance was better then Chris Lambert's. He was also great in Planet of the apes with Mark Wahlberg, Tim Roth and Helena Bonham Carter.
ElBeaster
ElBeaster - 12/24/2008, 3:01 PM
Ya, because that was WeaponX's idea. I definitely didn't say that on the third comment. I don't think anyone reads my comments. I'm pissed!

Nah, I don't care. :)

Sorry ElBeaster, you tha man LOL. It's just that i didn't really think of your pick because the name wasn't there. And then when Weapon X put it up later on well... i had forgotten about your post and checked out the name he had LOL Sorry bud, my bad LOL.

i would like to see Donnie Yen the guy that played snowman on blade 2 as THE MANDARIN.
SupermanReturns2

Henry Sanaka, from The Last Samurai, would be a great choice for The Mandarin, if not Ken Watanabe. He is a Shakespearean (spelling?) actor, with dozens of action films under his belt. A former protege of the great, Sonny Chiba, still young enough, and versed in action-fare to provide Tony Stark/Downey Jr. with great, on-screen challenges.

Google him.
