Man Builds Mini Repulsor-like Handheld Laser

Think you have what it takes to build a mini device resembling Tony Stark's hand repulsors? Well this guy does!

Popular Science recently reported on a man (he describes himself as an avid fan of Iron Man) who built a handheld laser projector inspired by Tony Stark's repulsor technology.

I find this fascinating, because we all know that even though the Iron Man technology is far from achievable by today's technological limitations, it is still a movie and character that was designed within the realm of reason. Meaning that the technologies presented in the movie does exist today in some form.

The Powered Exoskeleton is another shining example of how this Iron Man technology is slowly working its way into our everyday lives.

uh, that kind of tech has been out for a long time now, only difference is he put the laser on his palm. I've seen people burn paper with pen lasers, it's the same thing just threw in the world repulsor. Still nice tho.

yeah this kind of tech exists already. honestly i could have a very expensive laser, put it in some kind of palm holder, and I could have done the same thing. I might not know the whole story behind this, so maybe not. Either way, I do give him props for building the actual laser. THAT I could not do.

This is in effect a weak light saber. Much closer in function to that than a repulsor beam. The repulsors were more or less extremely concentrated jets where light sabers could be seen as extremely concentrated lasers.

-this is the geekiest topic I've ever engaged in.
