Haunted Flower's Review of Kick-Ass

Haunted Flower's Review of Kick-Ass

The character Kick-Ass really is more like "Ass-Kick" but Hit Girl and Big Daddy reign supreme in this fun violently offensive comic book movie!

Gina from Haunted Flower reviews “Kick-Ass” based on the comic book series by Mark Milar. It stars Aaron Johnson as Dave Lizewski, an ordinary high school student who dreams of being becoming a superhero. Pretty soon he is joined by other superheroes played by Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Chloe Moretz, and Nicholas Cage.

Couldn't really get into this review as it took so long to buffer and kept stuttering, so I gave up on it.

However...

I saw this film last night with some friends and can't remember the last time I left a cinema grinning so broadly.
I suppose I can see why there's an emphasis on THAT line of dialogue, but there are so many quotable lines in this film, and it's just a wonderful film on so many levels.
There are so many references to Marvel and DC characters it's a fan-boy's wet dream. There are direct nods to the first Spidey film (rooftop sequence, and the house he lives in looks very much like Aunt May's) and Nic Cage's Adam West-as-Batman line delivery when in costume, is both right on the money and truly hilarious.
The fight scenes are delivered efficiently and with a huge amount of style - something Zac Snyder ought to look at and digest - and this is only Vaughn's third film as Director.
The story races along, the characters are well realised and the belly laughs come fast and furious. There may be a lot of bad language, but at it's heart I found it to be quite a sweet and very human story.

Now to continue my rant from yesterday:

Tea@: So this film is talking half the money at the box-office that Clash of the Titans is.
By my reckoning that means that Kick-Ass will make more percentage profit owing to the fact that COTT cost around 200 million dollar$ and there's no way Kick-Ass cost 100million to make.

Word of mouth is going to mean that when this comes out on DVD & Blu-Ray, the percentage profit will increase further, while that of COTT might not be as impressive, at least relatively, owing to the drubbing it's been getting from reviewers and audiences alike.

People will go and see Kick-Ass and buy it on DVD. People will go and see COTT and wish they hadn't bothered.

Kick-Ass will win this battle.

@Growler, Kick-Ass will definitely crush "Clash of the Titans". Sorry my video was the suxor and wouldn't buffer for ya. It's my fault for trying to move ahead and upload these things in HD. If you go directly to youtube, you can lower the quality and it'll load a lot faster.

But the short version of my review is that I had a lot of fun and really enjoyed it. You hit the nail on the head with the Adam West Batman impression, that's exactly what I thought he sounded like too but couldn't articulate it. I usually hate Cage but in this he was spot on for what the role needed. And little Ms. Chloe there was the highlight of the whole thing for me, she rocked!

@Growler: Kick-Ass cost about $29m to make (£19m). It'll make its money back without breaking a sweat, so no worries there.

It would be nice to see it make a genuinely big impact though, not just relative to its budget. As you say, it will undoubtedly on DVD anyway, given the already very positive word of mouth (it's an 8.3 on imdb and everyone knows that's like 9.3 in the real world).
