On Whether He's Happy With The Adaptation Of His And Mark Millar's Kick-Ass:

"Well, I didn't want it to be too strict to the comic, as I think that would have been detrimental to Matthew's vision, but at the same time, I didn't want it to completely disparage the comic. I think it ended up as a nice combination."

On What He Liked Most About The Movie:

"I think the subtlety - it wasn't over the top, visually. The costumes weren't ridiculous, there wasn't one point where I felt any of the visuals were unnecessary. It could have been over the top, there could have been too much blood or too much of something else, but I think Matthew held it back."

"We went way over the top with the comic, and broke through a couple of barriers, so to speak. But I think Matthew pulled back just a touch, and that's what I was very happy with. He didn't go beyond us, he stayed within us."

On The Differences Between The Comic Book And Movie Costumes:

"If I'd known they were going to be so different from the comic, with the exception of Kick-Ass himself, I don't know if it would have intimidated me at all. When we were designing the costumes up-front, we did so with the mind of an amateur - these were normal people putting these costumes on - and it didn't really occur to us that we would use the iconic Batman visuals for Big Daddy Hit-Girl."

"But I have no problem with the difference. I enjoy my designs, but I think the costume designer for the film did a fantastic job."

On How He Feels About The Movie Being A Bigger Critical And Box Office Success In The UK Than US:

"Not surprised, but when it happened, it made sense. I think there's a little more of a comfort zone, maybe a little bit more leeway with content in the UK and Europe than the United States. I'm confounded by people who complained about the little girl and the foul language and violence, because, you know, there are no children with foul mouths in the United States!"

"I'm very happy that the UK took to it the way it did, because even though it's based in New York, this was a British production. I think that flair was there, and I think Matthew Vaughn doing the film gave it its strength in the UK and Europe. And I was very happy that the box office take was divided so evenly between the UK and the States."

Kick-Ass is out now on DVD and Blu-Ray in the US and UK while the comic book sequel is set to be released soon and the adaptation of that is rumoured to be only 9 months away from production!

Hack!
His artwork was why I quit buying Uncanny X-Men. He was good back in the early 80's, then he got into that lazy 2d style.

At least Cage can't ruin the sequel like he did with Kick-Ass.

I really enjoy Romita Jr. art, it's definitely an acquired taste.

I should pick up his recent titles and see for myself his style change. I haven't been keeping up with the current books I've mostly been reading older graphic novels, at the moment I'm reading the 30 Days of Night and after that I think I'm going to tackle The Preacher.

It's like Mark Bagley on Ultimate Spider-Man he sort of got lazy with the series as it progressed, it was getting to the point where the only difference between the Parker and say Gwen was that she had blonde hair and boobs. His faces all started looking alike.

Flames809, by his horrible acting, Cage was terrible! I understand why he acted the way he did, I understand that he wanted to do sort of an impersonation of Adam West when he was in costume but it ruined the character and most of the movie for me. Everyone else was spot on when it came to acting except Cage.

If I can tell that you're acting then you failed as an actor. For example when he was burning alive, I was actually laughing because he sounded so ridiculous he didn't sound like someone burning he sounded like someone trying to sound like they were in pain. He was overly cheesy even out of costume to the point where his character and his personality was completely unbelievable.

Cage's character's personality stood out way too much among everyone else, he didn't fit.

The only reason Nic Cage is famous is thanks to his uncle. Martin freakin Scorsese. He changed his last name to cage so that he wouldnt land jobs based on his uncles merit and reputation. Yeah, worked out real well for that, huh?

I love Romita Jr's art. There are some characters who just don't fit his style (Iron Man for example) but for the most part, he's one of Marvel's best IMO. His work on Amazing Spider-Man with JMS was stunning...it's just a pity that lately it's been a little rougher and sketchy which I guess could be down to deadlines or whatever. As for this interview, it made for an interesting read, and as much as I like Mark Millar it's nice to hear the artist get a chance to talk about Kick-Ass as well, lol!

@hotkarlk8083 actually his uncle is Francis Ford Coppola, but except from that you got it spot on. I must admit there are a few Nicholas Cage movies that I do enjoy, but his acting is always crappy, fake, and looks always the same.

Nic cage is not Scorsese's nephew. His real name is Nicholas Coppola (please correct the spelling if it's wrong). He's Francis Ford Coppola's nephew. But he actually won an academy award for something. I can't remember what though.LOL

@CBArtist, it was for Leaving Las Vegas, and I actually correctt myself he was good in the movie, but his best performance by far was Ghost Rider.....not. I would say it was adaptation, which is the only time I had actually really enjoyed Cage, and he was playing two characters in the movie.
