At least we know Nolan would never compromise the integrity of his films and allow goofy ass merchandising with Batman characters like we see with The Avengers. ;P

Yeah, because Nolan controls merchandising... Not oh I don't know, Warners/DC who actually OWN the character?
Hawksblueyes
Hawksblueyes - 2/5/2012, 6:16 AM
tea; Same here. I knew it was coming. If I were head of promotion/merchandising/advertising, I would go the same route as either of these movie. It's all about the money. Anybody claiming that any of these movies get made for purely artistic reasons is delusional.

PaulRom: A Bane potato head would actually be life sized. =D

Really? People that said that stupid "never compromise" shit must not have:

1. Seen all the merchandise from the last two movies.
2. Realized that Batman is owned by Warner Bros. not Nolan.
3. Be complete idiots for thinking a movie based on a character who has had countless incarnations in comics, television, movies, cartoons, toys, etc. was not going to have kid-focused merchandise around the time another movie with him comes out.
Hawksblueyes
Hawksblueyes - 2/5/2012, 6:21 AM
batmanrises: Of course Nolan doesn't control merchandising BUUUUUUTTTTT that hasn't stopped anybody from making outlandish and foolish comments that you would never, ever, ever see ridiculous merchandising tactics surrounding one of his movies like the childish stuff we are seeing from the Avengers. Take a look at almost any Avengers toy thread on this site if you don't believe me or your memory isn't working properly.

The Joker and Batman action figure commercial used to play in conjunction with the Dark Knight trailer on Cartoon Network. There's been kid-related merch since Batman Begins. Even though I thought kids would have been bored stupid with Dark Knight or scared to death of it.

Hawks is right. Every Avengers toy article has some Nolanites claiming that Nolan would never let this happen to his artistic film and that The Avengers is a kid movie because of the toys.
DudeGuy
DudeGuy - 2/5/2012, 7:13 AM
its a superhero movie. there were obviously going to be toys and merchandise. Whoever thought otherwise is an idiot

Sooo basically with this discussion we come to the conclusion that nolanites are [frick]in retarded and worship Nolan as allmighty? Whats new in it?

Nice potatohead, btw. I could have it on my desk.

Every big blockbuster studio owned franchise gets a bunch of merchandise along with it.
It's just part of the Hollywood machine

Its not like the director is taking a brake from cutting the movie to pick which toys look the best.
(Except maybe George Lucas)

Stiupid merchandise has nothing to do with the movie.
That goes for The Avengers also.

Why can't marvel and "nolanites" just get along

People blaming this on Nolan arer just crazy. He is not in change of the marketing or the merchandise. This is all the studio, like any other studio.

@NeoBaggins: My nieces and nephews kind of dislike the recent Batmans, because there's really not much in the way for kids or even younger teens for that matter. Too much of it was over their heads. And as my nephew Sam says, "Batman didn't do much cool stuff. And why no ninja fights?!" He'll get it in a few years though.

And I agree with you Hawksblueyes, I don't have to browse too far into the past threads to recall that smack talk.

NeoBaggins - 2/5/2012, 9:15 AM
@Darkhaven Yeah, I can only imagine what the series might be like for kids. Lawyers standing around discussing the penal codes, scary images and gunfights, all the while Batman not performaing a single roundhouse kick.

For some reason, I think the next set of films will get Batman back into the more colorful elements of the character. Or at least it should. We've seen Nolan's take on it. I think it shouldn't be more than three Nolan bat films, let alone a fourth one with someone trying to emulate the Nolan films.

But there's Batman the Brave and the Bold for the tykes for now.

ok anyone and I mean ANYONE who bashes a CBM because of the fact they make kid toys is not living on a little planet I call earth. Its a business and only up until recently the only people who went to see CBM was kids, thus it makes perfect business sense to rope the kids into the franchise with as many action figures and stuff like batspud up there.
Hawksblueyes
Hawksblueyes - 2/5/2012, 9:21 AM
WorldsGreatestdetective: Nobody here is blaming this on Nolan. What I am saying (contrary to statements made by fans in other threads) is that Nolan's movies are not above ANY sort of merchandising campaign as well they shouldn't be.

No matter how "artistic", "realistic," "thought provoking," or "deep" Nolan's Bat films are, they are still CBM's at heart. CBM's stemming from a comic book character that may well be THE comic character to end all characters in many enthusiasts eyes. There always will be and always should be merchandise available for every age group that can claim any love for that character. Not to do so would be a huge missed opportunity for both the studio involved and the fans who want them.

I'm sorry, I can't look at the picture without snickering.

It looks like he spudded himself there. So if Bane breaks his back, will he make french fries?

"Criminals of Gotham beware, for I am high in calories." :P

I'm sure kids will love the toy though.

Lighten up, people! It's fun and bears no reflection on the quality of the movie.
