DRACULA UNTOLD Producer Reveals How The Movie Fits Into Universal's Monster Universe

Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan are leading an initiative to create a shared movie monster universe similar to that of Marvel's Cinematic Universe, but with The Mummy and Frankenstein!

In the following interview with HeyUGuys, Dracula Untold producer Alissa Phillips reveals that while it wasn't originally the plan when they started work on the movie, this release is indeed the first step in Universal's planned shared universe for classic monsters like Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, Creature Of The Black Lagoon, The Invisible Man, Bride Of Frankenstein, and The Mummy. She also teases an extra scene at the end of the movie which sets the stage for future instalments in this particular franchise (providing it's a box office hit of course), so it's well worth watching! Be sure to head on over to the site by clicking on the link below to check out their interviews with Luke Evans, Sarah Gadon, director Gary Shore and more. Are you looking forward to Dracula Untold?

Luke Evans (Fast & Furious 6, Immortals) stars in Dracula Untold, the origin story of the man who became Dracula. Gary Shore directs and Michael De Luca produces the epic action-adventure that co-stars Sarah Gadon, Dominic Cooper, Diarmaid Murtagh and Samantha Barks.

Starring Luke Evans, Sarah Gadon, Diarmaid Murtagh, Dominic Cooper, Charles Dance, and Samantha Barks, Dracula Untold is set to be released on October 17th, just in time for Halloween!

I'll catch the flick because 'tis the season for monster flicks but nothing is making me anxious to see it immediately.

And I agree, Evans and Cooper deserve a better class of film. This may surprise us though.

I'd heard about that but didn't know this was part of it. Anyway, this movie looks fun and I'm sure I'll enjoy it. Screw movie critics, they hate everything.

In before people say Marvel Studios started 'this shared universe trend' and everyone else is a copycat.

Kurtzman!? The Universal Monster Universe is doomed.

"Creature from the Black Lagoon" sounds invigorating. The rest seem a little banal. I've certainly had enough of Frankenstein movies for a while.

Is Luke still doing the The Crow remake?

You're dumb if you think Marvel started the shared universe trend. It's been a thing since the '40's. Marvel just made it popular again.

This is shocking.... but makes me want to see it more.

Interesting. I'm curious about the shared universe. I'm all for it honestly. Hopefully this becomes something people don't even think about but expect in the future.

Why? Because it makes for cool stories. Sometimes a mix of genres is pretty cool and a mix of characters are pretty cool.

What I wonder is, are they going to have a team up film?

I wonder if they'll all be heroes/antiheroes or the actual badguys and villains.

Basically If you want to see shared monster universe movies, go to see Dracula Untold (or Year Zero as the first draft of the script says).

This is NOT how Universal should start their shared monsters universe....with an action packed Dracula movie??? Get real. It should be scary as [frick], not exciting

The thing about this franchise is it has the potential to be something that most classic hero tales cannot. They can do tell the whole thing from the angle of the misunderstood villain which is so popular these days. As monsters, they can do things that most heroes would be morally reprehensible for. And I'd expect them to lose to the humans in the end. And, if done just right, it will be sad and show a reflection of intolerance in humanity. It could be good and something different. I just wish it started with and followed the tone of "The Wolfman" with Bennecio Del Toro. They could have let Hugo Weaving's character carry the mantle while trying to tame the beast within.

I hate life right now.

They could of built a great universe by bringing back that classic gothic feel.

All of the news so far and the look of the Dracula Untold movie makes it feel like they are trying to cash in on the superhero craze.

I will see the Invisible Man no matter what (I been waiting for that movie for some time) but I hate the style they are went with Drucula.

@GenerationX

Couldn't agree more. I miss the days when vampire movies were actually creepy like Bram Stokers Drac and Interview with the Vampire. Somewhere among the line vampires got turned into emo crap and these super action movies.

okay, if Luke Evans's the Dracula...

how bout:
- Kevin Durand plays the Frankenstein creature
- Black Lagoon Creature a CG creation
- Oded Fehr plays The Mummy
- Gerard Butler as the Wolfman
- Jean Dujardin (The Artist) as the Invisible Man
- Kevin Spacey as the Phantom of the Opera

As a Turk, I find this movie offensive. The person they picked for the main baddie was Ottoman's most loved and good leader.

Yeah something tells me that Universal may reconsider making this part of a shared monsters universe. This movie looks like a flop. I don't see a sequel. Make a creepy vampire movie. Not emo, action packed crap like this...
Stubner

I had a feeling that this was the case...

... so much so that I've been selling this movie to people as the start of Universal's shared Monster universe before I even knew if it was true.

Interesting! I like it. If they're playing him as an anti-hero then they should do similar takes with the rest. Basically making them victims, or sacrificing/losing their humanity for a greater good, or it was done to them. The movies would lead to a Monster Avnegers like flick where they team up to stop a C'thullu like demon or something. Only Monsters can defeat monsters.

Already have ideas for Wolf-Man, The Mummy, Frankenstein's monster and tthe bride.

I'm sorry but from the trailers it looks like a "%$*# You,it's January" movie. Why would you make THAT the cornerstone of a mega franchise?
