Director Luc Besson (Leon, The Fifth Element) is set to helm a new take on Dracula, and he has enlisted his DogMan star Caleb Landry Jones to play the legendary Transylvanian Count.

The movie is reportedly titled Dracula – A Love Tale, and is described as a “a big-budget reimagining” of the vampire's origin story. Fellow DogMan actor Christoph Waltz is also on board in an undisclosed role (though we'd say there's a pretty good chance he'll play Van Helsing).

According to Deadline, the film will "explore in a little more depth the gothic romance between Prince Vladimir and his wife. whose loss turns him to forsake God and become a vampire. Buyers familiar with Besson’s script tell us there are some epic and potentially spectacular set pieces."

This wouldn't be the first time we've seen Dracula's pre-vampire life depicted on screen. There's a flashback to the Count's Vlad "The Impaler" days in Francis Ford Coppola's lavish adaptation, Bram Stoker's Dracula, and the more recent Dracula Untold focuses on the former Knight's fall into darkness after a fateful encounter with an ancient blood-sucker.

Jones played Banshee in X-Men: First Class, but the character was killed off prior to the events of X-Men: Days of Future Past. Memorable supporting roles in the likes of Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Get Out, Finch and American Made.followed.

As for Besson, DogMan was viewed as something of a comeback for the controversial filmmaker, who made his name helming movies such as Big Blue, La Femme Nikita, Leon, and The Fifth Element. More recently, his career was impacted by sexual misconduct allegations, which included accusations from an actress who worked with the director on Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.

Besson steadfastly denied these claims, however, and was cleared of all charges last year by France’s equivalent of the U.S. Supreme Court.

What do you make of this news? Do you have any interest in yet another retelling of the Dracula tale? Drop us a comment down below.

"Dracula is a novel by Bram Stoker, published in 1897. An epistolary novel, the narrative is related through letters, diary entries, and newspaper articles. It has no single protagonist and opens with solicitor Jonathan Harker taking a business trip to stay at the castle of a Transylvanian nobleman, Count Dracula. Harker escapes the castle after discovering that Dracula is a vampire, and the Count moves to England and plagues the seaside town of Whitby. A small group, led by Abraham Van Helsing, investigate, hunt and kill Dracula."

Caleb Landry Jones is a darned good actor! At one point I could have seen him as a younger version of Constantine!

I'll see it if it happens.

But please don't let that french goofball give us some weepy angsty whiny Dracula.

If they make it a tragic epic love story, we might as well start throwing up now.

He was in Byzantium too! One of the better vampire movies of recent years. Really good flick.

Even more Dracula? It really starts to feel the like the public domain character that has been adapted the most

@bkmeijer1 - That's because Dracula IS the character that has been adapted the most. Dracula holds the Guinness world record for the character with the most movie appearances. lol

@Demigods - good to know my perception isn't off then.

Did look up some lists though, and Sherlock Holmes and Frankenstein are up there too. And now I want a story with the three of them

I love the concept, but very few recent Dracula movies have lived up to my hype for the character... but here's to hoping it's awesome!

I really hope this is good. The King Vampire needs a good movie.

Luc Besson is VERY hit or miss to me though, and his weird pervy predilections only further my distaste for him.

@Demigods - I quite like Renfield, but it wasn't a Dracula movie per se. And its was more fun than good anyway.

Haven't checked Last Voyage of the Demeter yet, but that looked promising imo.

@bkmeijer1 - I'm a huge Dracula fan, so I REALLY wanted to like both of those movies... but unfortunately, I did not. Renfield on paper, is a great concept. Hell, Nick Cage as Dracula on paper could have been great to watch for the comedic gold, and that was where the movie was at its best... but everything short of Nick Cage as Dracula was garbage in that movie IMO.

The Last Voyage of the Demeter was another movie that I think is INCREDIBLE... in concept... however, the execution was pretty damned terrible in my opinion. I LOVED the idea of that chapter of Dracula being adapted into an Alien(1979)-esque horror, but in it simply was not executed well.

*****Spoiler alert******I tend to have a hard time watching kids die in movies now, but I literally yawned during this scene of the movie... literally one of the most pivotal scenes. Could have been great, had they not tried so hard to shoe horn certain plot points into the movie.

@Demigods - that sucks to hear about it being only good on paper. I like monster movies in general, so I'll give it a try nonetheless. Thanks for the warning though

@bkmeijer1 - yeah. I hear ya. I'm a sucker for a Dracula movie, but I just found it relatively boring. It was passable... but just barely.

However, I do hope that you find it more enjoyable than I did. Nothing wrong with having different tastes and all that. But just keep your expectations tampered.
