With the film's star Tom Cruise (Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation) already deep in preparation (e.g. taking helicopter lessons, scouting locations, etc.), it was only a matter of time before Universal's upcoming Monster Movie Universe launching pad - The Mummy - began to round out its cast and we've just received word of who may star opposite the 3x Academy Award-nominee.

Variety is reporting that Annabelle Wallis is currently in talks to star opposite Cruise in the upcoming reboot of the 1932 classic. She'll portray an archaeologist, who it's probably safe to assume will play some part in resurrecting the film's titular villain, played by Kingsman: The Secret Service breakout star Sofia Boutella

Details on the film's plot and Cruise's character are fairly scarce, but what we do know is that unlike the previous trilogy that starred Brendan Fraser (Behind The Curtain Of Night), this one will be set in present day. As for Cruise's character, it's been widely rumored that he'll play a retired special forces soldier. Alex Kurtzman (People Like Us) is helming the project with a script from Jon Spaihts (Doctor Strange).

Annabelle Wallis is best known for her roles on the historical fiction dramas Peaky Blinders and The Tudors. Her most prominent film roles incude the lead in the James Wan-directed horror Annabelle and a part in the Sacha Baron Cohen-led comedy The Brothers Grimsby. She's also made smaller appearances in Ridley Scott's Body Of Lies, Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First ClassRupert SandersSnow White and the Huntsman and will be seen next in Guy Ritchie's Knights Of The Roundtable: King Arthur

So, what do you guys think? Excited for The Mummy and/or the upcoming Monster Movie Universe? Sound off with your thoughts below!

Slow news day today huh? Don't really care for this at all. I'm sure she a great actress and Tom Cruise even in his old age is still a pretty darn good action hero/actor. But let's be honest here... this movie is nothing more than a cash grab to try and do something that is really not needed or wanted ( by most people). Plus they are making a universe out of this??? I will literally die laughing if the movies after consists of nothing more than old Tommy Cruise fighting a different monster every movie. Then..........wait for it.............Tom Cruise fights all the monsters he fought in the previous movies plus one or two new ones just so it feels fresh. I just don't feel this is necessary as a film to happen. Hope I'm wrong and this movie in general is great but seriously what is wrong with the first mummy movie. Besides kind of crummy cgi, I feel like it's a good movie still. Not trying to complain as I'm sure there are people excited for this movie so.. respect.

With horror elements, this could be an awesome change of pace from the costume Heros and Star Wars that are going to load the screen too much in the next few years. I predict success, just because of fatigue. Be honest, does the general public have an endless appetite for super Heros or scifi? No. At one point westerns were the big movies, and that lasted a long time, but they faded as the audience grew weary. This will help break up the sheer volume of DC and Disney films. It will be a modest success.
