Well, rather than a slapstick comedy, it appears as if Universal's latest reboot of The Mummy franchise will actually be a horror this time around as The Hollywood Reporter reveals that the studio are circling a deal with Andres Muschietti to direct. He replaces Total Recall director Len Wiseman who walked away from the project back in July. Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are producing the movie along with Sean Daniels. All we know about the Jon Spaihts (Prometheus scripted reboot is that it will be set in the present day. Muschietti found great success with Mama - which starred Jessica Chastain and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau - as it would go on to earn $146 million on a budget of only $15 million. How do you guys feel about this decision?

I am quite excited about this. I love the original. I am a huge horror fan, and this is one of the quintessential horror classics. And unlike most of the mindless masses, I love reboots and remakes. As long as they are done right, that is. I believe that they can instill in someone who hasn't seen the original to go back and watch it. This helps to create new fans and introduce a classic to a new generation.

He did decent job in directing Mama which was ok movie.

I just cant imagine this Mummy happening in present day.
Better setup would be in the middle of 18 and 19 Century.

As long as this is the classic, and not the Brendan Fraser version, I am onboard. I am no fan of remakes, but I sing a different tune when it comes to Universal or Hammer versions of the Mummy, Frankenstien, Dracula, and the Wolfman.

Dear Hollywood,

More comic book movies on properties that have never been on the big screen. Less Reboots.

Hoping it works out. Would quite like to see a successful update of at least one of the classic Universal monsters.

If this new Mummy movie is actually a horror movie, I'm in. If it's another lame Indiana Jones rip off, forget it.
