THE MUMMY Reviews Are In... And It's Not Looking Good For The First DARK UNIVERSE Movie

Will Tom Cruise fans ignore critics and turn out in full force to see The Mummy, the launch of Universal's Dark Universe? What does a failure mean for the rest of the studio's monster movies?

With a current Rotten Tomatoes score of just 23% and more than a few scathing reviews, Universal's Dark Universe is getting off to an auspicious start.

The Mummy is currently tracking for a $35 million domestic debut which will place it second after WB's Wonder Woman.  The review embargo lifted yesterday evening and critics have not been kind. Who knows how this will effect the film's performance this weekend, which is already down from its initial projection of $40 million.

Do you think foreign markets will rescue a Tom Cruise-led film once again?

"It's amazingly relentless in its naked borrowing from other, better horror and sci-fi movies."
RogerEbert.com

"It plays, in fact, like a movie directed by a producer, someone checking items off a to-do list rather than telling a story in a consistent tone."
The Boston Globe

"How meh is The Mummy? Let me count the ways. For all the digital desperation from overworked computers, this Tom Cruise reboot lands onscreen with a resounding thud. Epic fail."
Rolling Stone

"I'm not sure that this aimless, lukewarm, but occasionally rollicking take on The Mummy is how the studio dreamed that its Dark Universe would kick off. But it's just good enough to keep you curious about what comes next."
Entertainment Weekly

"A tomb full of action-packed guilty pleasure that owns its horror, humor and rampant silliness equally."
USA Today

"Obviously the worst movie that Tom Cruise has ever made."

@BigMikeReviews - How disappointing as I love the original content so much. I hope the dark universe is in arriving DOA

@SpideyQuad - well considering that Dracula Untold was supposed to be the first film in the series, and now it shifted to The Mummy, I wouldn't be shocked if it's DOA.

With that said, I'm sure they'll still released Bride of Frankenstein, but after that (especially if it's not received well) itll probably be over.

@BigMikeReviews - You mean the sarcophagus that doesn't look even one bit Egyptian and more like something from Giger? You mean that one?

@BigMikeReviews - The ORIGINAL Mummy was fantasdick. It had Oscar Attender Brendan Fraser who won best picture for George of the Jungle. I present to you, the original Mummy hunter, may your dreams never be as pleasant again:

@SuperCat - Empire gives it 3/5 but the review is very generous. Critics are trying to tear this one apart but it looks like fun movie. I'm not expecting a great film but I think it will be good
