Universal’s VAN HELSING Reboot Enlists A Pair Of Writers

It sounds like Universal's monster cinematic universe is a go. A new report has revealed that the studio has signed two writers to pen their long-rumored Van Helsing reboot. Come check it out!

Variety is reporting Universal has signed Jon Spaihts (Doctor Strange) and Eric Heisserer (Hours) to co-write their upcoming Van Helsing reboot, which will build upon their still-developing classic monsters universe. Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan are on-board as producers.

Plot details remain scarce as do details on the shared monster movie universe, but what we do know is that a reboot of The Mummy will launch the universe when it hits theaters in 2017.

The Van Helsing character was last seen on screen in the hit 2004 film of the same name, which starred Hugh Jackman (Wolverine 3) as the titular vampire hunter and Kate Beckinsale (Underworld 5) as his ill-fated lady love. At one point, Tom Cruise (Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation) was attached to the reboot, but according to Variety reporter Justin Kroll, that is unsurprisingly no longer the case.

What do you guys think of this latest development? Excited for a shared monster universe? Sound off with your thoughts below!

Is this really a reboot of the Hugh Jackman movie? Because Van Helsing the character predates that crap film by ages...

Untold still might be part of the monsters universe according to Kurtzman. They'll decide if they include it if The Mummy is a hit.

I think they should have made a slightly darker movie with Hugh Jackman and not try and make it a slightly retro Batman.
Although it was quite fun as Hugh is always engaging, and Kate BEkinsale was fabulous : )

It was this film that made me come up with the phrase "steampunkass". I used this phrase as my overall impression of the film.

I really enjoyed the original movie and don't understand the hate either. If they do a reboot, what actor could possibly be better than Hugh Jackman. Just make a sequel with him in it.
