Planned Wolfman Reboot Gets A New Title AND Director!

The planned reboot of the Universal franchise, last seen on the big screen as Joe Joe Johnston's The Wolfman, has reportedly found itself a new title and director! Hit the jump for details...

A little while ago, it was revealed that rather than the originally planned straight to DVD sequel, The Wolfman (released in 2010, and directed by Captain America: The First Avenger's Joe Johnston) would instead be receiving the reboot treatment.

Writer Michael Tabb has reworked the script for Universal into an original, stand-alone picture and Moviehole now exclusively report that the movie, set to be titled Werewolf, has found a director in the form of Louis Morneau. Casting is also expected to begin soon.

Morneau’s previous credits include Joy Ride 2 : Dead Ahead, The Hitcher II : I’ve Been Waiting, Bats and Retroactive. Yeah...I'm guessing this is probably still going to heading straight to DVD then. Apparently, the tone of the movie will have more in common with the original 1941 George Waggner film rather than the critically panned effort from the 2009 remake.

that is one fantastic werewolf transformation, but i think an american werewolf in london still has the best transformation to date.

in a time before cgi, this is amazing.

I thought the Johnston/Del Toro films was pretty good. It was reboot more than a remake and I think that's why it was panned by critics. I mean the plot was a little loose I guess.

I liked the Joe Johnston film a lot. We really need to lay off the reboots. I won't complain about another werewolf movie.

But a 2013(ish?) reboot of a 2010 remake of a 1941 movie? Really?

@marvel72 Still good by today's standards.

This is what Hollywood has come to?! Rebooting a movie 1 year after the fact?!

What the hell is wrong with the REMAKE ill say again REMAKE that we got not one year ago?! I enjoyed that film and thought it did enough justice to the classic. They cant reboot a movie if theyre using the same story. Its a remake and its a poor idea lets funnel THAT movie into a much wanted creature from the black lagoon remake id pay money for that not this crap.

Johnston's Wolfman is, I think, one of the most atmospheric movies I've ever seen. I remember watching it, for the most part I enjoyed it much

They should be spending that money on remaking the rest of the Universal classic monsters like Dracula and Frankenstein and do those fun horror mash-ups when they meet up and fight like in the good old days!

@Intruder - Joe Johnston was much more than just another FX director on the original Star Wars film, he was one of the key concept artists along with Ralph MCQuarrie responsible for the entire look of the movies! His Rocketeer movie was the first comic film to get practically 99% of the look, casting and spirit of the comic accurate and still be a damn great film. If it wasn't for T2 Judgement day outshining it a week later with CGI FX, it would have been a hit!

Why make a reboot if they are not even trying to make it better?!:/

The Wolfman was ok. If only they could have made the storyline and the acting better. The original Wolfman´s storyline was perfect. Why change it?!

They should just forget this stupid idea and bring the Werewolf tv-series or another movie version of Stephen King´s The Cycle Of The Werewolf or remake of The Howling to the big screen! Those i would like to see and don right they could be [frick]ing awesome!

I thought the Wolfman with Benicio Del Toro was pretty good it was just like the original only better graphics and more violence. Why reboot it? I wag my finger at Universal.

Hollywood, I thought you guys had grown out of this craze. They're right back to where they started 70 years ago, rebooting, remaking, revamping films after just a year.

Like seriously, I thought the franchise craze was bad but at least you get a different story with each movie. This reboot craze... it has to stop.

The regular cinema-goer isn't going to see this movie because it's a reboot, they're going to see it because they like werewolf movies.
It's the same reason I saw The Wolfman last year.
And it'll be the same reason I see this upcoming film.
