Cinematic universes are all the rage. You can blame Marvel and The Avengers for that. By now you should know Alex Kurtzman ("Stark Trek Into Darkness") has been put in charge of Universal's classic movie monster cinematic universe. The Mummy reboot, which is slated for a June 24, 2016 release, was supposed to kick things off but it may have unexpectedly begun with this summer's Dracula Untold. Then a week ago, Universal announced a April 21, 2017 release date for a mystery monster movie that will follow The Mummy. Could that film be a reboot of The Wolf Man?

Despite a lack of superheroes, Universal Pictures continues to bolster its franchises. The studio is going hard to revive its classic monsters franchises–I’m hearing that Prisoners scribe Aaron Guzikowski is being courted to get the Wolf Man howling again, after Uni rebooted The Mummy.

In 1941, Universal had a monster-sized hit with The Wolf Man. It starred Lon Chaney Jr. as Lawrence Talbot, a man that comes back home after the death of his brother. Lawrence is attacked and bitten by a werewolf, which leads to him becoming a werewolf. Universal previously rebooted the film with 2010's The Wolfman, which starred Benicio del Toro.

The Wolfman (2010) - Academy Award®-winners Anthony Hopkins (The Silence of the Lambs) and Benicio Del Toro (Traffic) tear up the screen in this action-packed thriller. Lawrence Talbot (Del Toro) is lured back to his family estate to investigate the savage murder of his brother by a bloodthirsty beast. There, Talbot must confront his childhood demons, his estranged father (Hopkins), his brother's grieving fiancée (Emily Blunt, The Devil Wears Prada) and a suspicious Scotland Yard Inspector (Hugo Weaving, The Matrix trilogy). When Talbot is bitten by the creature, he becomes eternally cursed and soon discovers a fate far worse than death. Inspired by the classic Universal film that launched a legacy of horror, The Wolfman brings the myth of a cursed man back to its iconic origins. Watch the never before seen unrated version.

the Joe Johnston remake sucked so much. Then again, he was a last-minute replacement over Mark Romanek. The writer for this is still unproven; when I think of Prisoners, I think more of the performances, cinematography and direction than the screenplay.

Why can't the creature from the Black Lagoon get any love. Disappointing.

Prisoners was one of my favorite movies of last year, so hiring this screenwriter gives me some confidence in this.

I kinda liked that fan film on the internet with Benicio del Toro. They should do a film of that, but work on it....you could easily tell it was an expensive fan film.

The executives at Universal are morons. I don't think they will produce any remake of the Mummy, Dracula or Frankenstein that will be any good.

Coppola did his remake at Sony.

So are they going to include Abbot & Costello as the protagonists of the 'monster universe'?

I can't stand vampire movies anymore...It's a flooded market with that shit. Everything nowadays is vampires and zombies. We had a bunch of frankenstein's...for god sakes we had Deniro as Frankenstein..."You talking to me igor?"

And Mummy...forget it....we had about four of those.

So lets do another Wolfman...Great idea...I say instead of making another wolfman, lets just dress Jack Nicholson in his costume from "Wolf" and let that crazy old bastard run around in central park. More entertaining.

Marvel and the Avengers are just copying what Universal did in the 40 with their old monster movies. Give credit where credit is due

These are not superheroes, they are f*cking horror monsters for god's sake. Stop trying to emulate the comics with this shared universe. These monsters didn't originate in any comic book. This is just an excuse that Universal is using because Legendary couldn't bring any DC characters with them when they left WB. Please, stop trying to make superhero movies and start making horror movies with your horror monsters. Stop trying to turn them into something they're not.

It's simple, you want a good Werewolf flick? Get rid of cheesy/rushed cgi. The Van Helsing Werewolf is the only exception.

Yes yes Universal - WE GET IT! - You want your own MCU, you've all sat down at a board meeting and I don't know what they put in the boardroom water-jug but you have convinced yourselves that the the Universal monsters characters are just as adaptable as Marvel's and Dc's portfolio of characters.
They're not. They're too old, too classically set and you cannot reboot them more successfully than 2010's The Wolfman - and you cannot re-imagine them because they are classic tales/fables.

Trying to copy Marvel with a classics-portfolio will not work and your 'masterplan' of working towards a team-up movie will be even more of a laughable disaster than Van Helsing was!...

Don't! - Just Don't!.

They remake they did not too long ago wasn't bad, but I dunno it just seems like they should've switched up something's in regards to the way the actual Wolfman looked. It had a few twist and turns in regards to the plot but it was just a bit...I dunno...too classic? The most successful thing you can do within any werewolf flick is bring forth a new image of how the werewolf will look. "An American Werewolf in London" still has some if the best movie make-up I've ever seen for any realistic werewolf flick. Underworld comes in a strong second place as well.

I just want to honestly feel terrified of the next werewolf they being forth to the screen. Recreate that "mindless animalistic" characteristic that sows how much of a threat he is.
