Following a year where The Golden Globes were not broadcast on television partially due to a boycott surrounding issues of bribery, conflicts of interest and diversity, the awards ceremony will be returning to TV  for the 2023 awards season.

The 81st Golden Globe Awards will air, January 7, 2024 on CBS. Nominees were announced earlier this morning, with Barbie and Oppenheimer leading the way with 8 nominations each.

For many film industry analysts and insiders, The Golden Globes are something of a barometer test for how the rest of the awards season could pan out.

For instance, Nomadland took home the top honors at The Golden Globes before securing an Oscar in 2020/2021, with Moonlight doing the same in 2016/2017 and 12 Years A Slave securing double wins  in 2013/2014.

And typically, while the winners might not always be the same, the nominees for The Golden Globes and Academy Awards are usually, virtually identical.

On the genre front, The Last of Us, Barbie, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and The Super Mario Bros. Movie are all well represented.

Check out the full list of Golden Globes nominees below.

I am so far behind on shows I want to watch. I have yet to start The Bear, Slow Horses, Lessons in Chemistry, or The Last of Us.

Barbie? Seriously?! How stupid has our country become?

AmazingFILMporg - 12/11/2023, 11:05 AM
@lazlodaytona -

Barbie was very well written and acted. It was great.

But this country is stupid. We voted for a game show host as president that looks like a clown with terrible hair. He tried to overthrow democracy in the laziest way and people are actually defending this clown. We also voted a zombie for president🤡

America is dumb💁

@lazlodaytona - This is what making you wonder?

It's not like Muricans elected a documented womanizer orange buffoon for the president and even scarier thing is, he might be coming back again!

Having a movie that made over a Billion dollars at box office while many other flavor of the decade franchise movies are struggling, getting nominated for bunch of awards is the least of "our country's problem".

Across The Spider-verse for Best Animated Movie.

Actually that should be nominated for Best Picture, but fools be fools.

"Best Motion Picture — Non-English Language"

Pay attention AMPAS, this is how it's done. Non-English Language. Not international. People use international wrong all the time. Pisses me off when they do it in an official capacity. It's a misnomer, correct it.

The only thing of note is that I think they should limit it to one nomination per movie or show per category. Feels kinda unfair to the many others that could be nominated in its place

Haven't even heard of some of these movies and shows. The Boy And The Heron will probably win best animated movie, I watched the trailer and it looks amazing.

Nice to see The Bear get the noms but I don't get why it's always put in the "musical/comedy" section, what does it needs to have in order to be considered for "Best Drama"?

Happy that Brie Larson also got acknwoledged for Lessons in Chemistry.
