Here are some 3 star movies that were good, but could have been better:
-Terminator Salvation

-Paul Blart: Mall Cop
-Observe & Report
-Funny People (depending on your mood...)
-The Dark Knight (it was rereleased in 2009 you know...)

@Keven: You've got a great top 5 man!!! I loved the first Crank and the second one just didn't do it for me. Gamer was just... something else... they were insane but I went into those films without an open mind... I kept thinking about them and the more I thought about them the more I hated them...

@LEEE: Thanks man!!! I thought the new Harry Potter was pretty good, so I will just see 7 just to see it. I was going to see Hurt Locker when it was out, but I missed it and saw Funny People instead (bad idea on that one)... I will rent it when it comes out though. Same with Zombieland... Woody Harrelson is a fantastic actor. We have to find a comic book character for him to play...

MMm. Knowing and Taken belong on the other list imo..and both Crank 2 and Gamer, although lacking in certain areas, are about 50 times more enjoyable than either of them. Otherwise I agree..maybe not that they are the best/worst, but certainly that they are very good/very bad!

The Sci Fi of Knowing really amused me... I just thought Taken was cool... it reminded me of an episode of 24...

I have my own opinions but I'd have to say I agree with your lists for the most part! However, Inglorious Basterds most definitely wouldnt be on my top 10 best list! :P Star Trek is probably my top film of the year though, followed closely by Watchmen and Avatar!! One of the worst movies I saw this year had to be Bruno...it wasnt even a tiny bit as good as the brilliant Borat!!
InTylerWeTrust

DDD - 12/28/2009, 9:34 PM
Super new avatar Leee@ but I miss the Tick! :D

Yep@ Tyler@, CATWOMAN, worst CBM ever!
I mean it had a big budget and a big star
and they do that with it? Shoulda got a
lesser star and spent a lot of the money
on a better scriptwriter/story-writer!
Blechhh!!! That movie was even worst than
that Batman & Boy Wonder movie made by
that guy who shall remain nameless! ;D

But Avatar is far from the best movie of
the year! Its storyline is hackneyed and
extremely hokey and derivative, its got
some terrible dialog and though its new CG
was good it was clunky at times! Cameron
tricked everybody with that damm 3-D!

If a movie's really special it doesn't need
slight-of-hand distraction of 3-D! I have
always hated 3-D! Its a hokey gimmick at best!
And there are a lot of people who will agree
with me!

There are two movies that deserve top billing
and they are Star Trek and District 9. They
both have great story-telling and a wonderful
heart beating at the midst of them! Avatar had
a phony, forced heart!

But of the two I choose Star Trek 'cause JJ and
Company outdid themselves at bringing Star Trek
into the 21st Century! The writing was incredible
and if you look at it closely you will see a
masterpiece of scriptwriting and story-telling!

JJ directed with total mastery and made a 40 year
old show relevant in this mad modern world! He put
together an incredible cast whose performances were
subtle but totally accurate. Karl Urban deserves an
Oscar alone for his portrayal of Bones! It was
creepy, like he was channeling DeForest Kelly! I've only
seen two other performances that creepy, Val
Kilburn with Jimmy Morrison and Kurt Russell with
Elvis on TV.

Tyler@ Watchmen is the best damm CBM of all time
but its not perfect! It ties with District 9. But
Zak Snyder should be proud of himself 'cause he
masterly put to film a story that everybody said
was undoable! It does have its faults but I love it
and think its a damm masterpiece!

Zak Snyder did something that I've rarely seen a
director do! Do two adaptations back-to-back and
make two outright masterpices! I would say Zak
has some chops, wouldn't you?
:D :D ;D

Leee@ Woody's not a REAL superhero in DEFENDOR!
He's a delusional man who only BELIEVES he is a
superhero!

Its a cute little character-piece, a kind of
what if? It really looks like one of those
special little low-budget movies that's
actually a masterpiece in its own right, with
a wonderful heart beating strong at its center!

If anyone can pull off a part like that it would
be Woody!

Damm! I gotta find the time to go see Zombieland
before its gone from the theaters!

CRITIC17 - 12/28/2009, 10:20 PM
@Tyler: I only liked Statham in Transporter 2 and Bank Job, but yes Crank 2 sucked major a$$!!! Nice lists though, :)

@DDD: Yeah man!!! In Michigan, Zombieland is gone from the theatres... So I get to wait till it hits DVD...

@Bleed: Yeah go see District 9 man!!!

@LEEE: Come on, Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and Liev Schreiber saved Wolverine, despite Deadpool sucking in it... Thats cool about Woody man!!

DDD: Watchmen is my fav. CBM of all time, but I don't think it's tied with District 9. District 9 literally came out of nowhere, grabbed me by the balls, and slammed me repeatedly into a wall of sheer awesomeness. There are only a handful of movies that have done that to me. Fight Club (of course) is one of them. With Watchmen, I kind of expected it to be awesome, and it was, it just didn't throw me back by surprise the way D9 did. And I think I was hit more emotionally with D9 than Watchmen, not to say Watchmen didn't (it certainly did, especially in "that scene" with Rorschach and Dr. Manhattan), just D9 hit me more.

Snyder is good at doing adaptations that have only one set story, I'll give him that. The problem I see with everyone throwing themselves all over his d*ck and wanting him to direct every CBM for the rest of time is that he hasn't shown he can do a CBM with a character (or characters) with years worth of continuity and who appear in more than one story. That's going to be a huge challenge for him (as well as any director), and he hasn't done that before, and that's my beef with seeing his name suggested for Superman, Justice League, etc. and people saying he would definitely be perfect to direct those CBM's and there is no other choice.
CRITIC17
CRITIC17 - 12/28/2009, 10:23 PM
Yes, Catwoman or Man-Thing are the worst CBM's of all time, Elektra's a close second though...
CRITIC17
CRITIC17 - 12/28/2009, 10:39 PM
@Tyler: Well said man! I admit, D9 blew me away even more than Watchmen did (hence the fact that D9 is #3 and Watchmen is #6), I loved Watchmen at first, but then I realized that it had some problems (like comic differences) and actually (like I noticed with TDK) that after seeing it for the 3rd time, I got tired of it. Go Fight Club!!!

KeepItReal - 12/28/2009, 10:58 PM
inglorious bastards was second for the best? It was alright but not deserving of 2nd imho. Did not like Knowing.

Hated Night at the museum. Got to agree it was not needed at all.
DDD
DDD - 12/28/2009, 11:21 PM
Tyler@ I didn't throw myself all over Zak's d#*k!
And I don't think he should direct every superhero movie now!
But he did amazing jobs with The 300 and Watchmen!

I for one think Peter Jackson or JJ Abrams should direct
Superman 'cause they're the only guys I've seen who could do
adaptations and make them near perfectly accurate
and convey the essence of the original material!
InTylerWeTrust
InTylerWeTrust - 12/28/2009, 11:27 PM
DDD: I never said you did. I said people do. You're comment about Snyder just made me think about those who hail Snyder as the best director of CBM's ever. My comment had nothing to do with you in particular.
DDD
DDD - 12/28/2009, 11:35 PM
Tyler@ I like little movies like District 9
that are not huge budget movies but have a
beating heart at their center and just
blow you away with their action and emotion!

But when I critique a movie I don't just look
at it's action impact but its soul, its heart!
Its soul should be glowing like a million suns!
You may be right in that Distract 9 has an edge
on SOUL-IMPACT of a motion picture over Watchmen
but Star Trek was just about perfect and had
an Oscar-worthy performance by Karl Urban!
BESIDES I LOVE TREK! (Although I'm not a trekker
which is what real trekkies call themselves!)

But I am just so HAPPY for all this scifi and
comic book movies lately! I'm like a kid (although a
HUGE kid) in a candy store! :D :D :D

I think I should change my Top 5 Best of '09.

Specifically with Avatar as #5. I think I should replace it with Terminator Salvation. I really dug that movie, even though a lot of people didn't like it. I thought it was well-made and well-acted. It was definitely better than I expected, well, the trailers were pretty awesome, but I still expected it to be sh*t. And come on, it gave us one of the funniest celebrity rants of all time. That's got to be worth something.

I'm just so tired of talking about Avatar though. That's why I've pretty much steered clear of all articles related to it. I just want to get past this "Avatar fever" period, it's so annoying.

I have read Watchmen and it's awesome.
I see the movie and it's crap. The director try to impress.
The only thing that I like in the movie is Rorschach.

CRITIC17 - 12/29/2009, 1:29 AM
@Tyler: It will pass and hopefully Kick-Ass or Jonah Hex fever will take over soon... I liked Salvation, but I expected it to be better than even Star Trek... but I was pretty disappointed... but it was still a terrific film and is an honorable mention (I should put some honorable mentions up there)... I liked it just like I liked Transformers (which so many people on here hated, but I loved it). I agree though, it does get tiring hearing about all the damn people rant about how Synder should direct everything and how Jensen Ackles or Sam Worthington (who I still think is Captain America) should play this or that... but there's really nothing we can do to stop that... I just wanted to say: Nuff said Tyler!!! You'd be a really good writer (unless you already are), that or a good critic, your much better than me anyway... :)

@Superhero: Watchmen was good, but it does need some improvements. I hated what Synder did with 300, but liked Dawn of the Dead.. Rorschach was that movie.
