It is very rare that a comic tie in to a huge movie is good. Most of the time they suffer from either being too stiff, bad dialogue and even worse artwork, and just being able to capture the magic of the movie its based on. This is a tie in that is not only surprisingly good but has gotten me more excited for TRON: Legacy. I don't know whether or not some of this will be covered in the film but the plot of the comic is that after the events of the first movie, Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges Character) has gone back into the grid to create "The Perfect System". With the help of his old friend TRON, Flynn sets out to create this amazing system but many obstacles stand in his way. Such as viruses, derezzing insects, and as always rough programs with one thing on there mind; to derezz all in there way.
In order for Kevin to balance his life in and out of the Grid,Kevin creates a new watchful eye in the grid. C.L.U. At first C.L.U. manages to work well with his "father" and friend TRON but C.L.U. becomes more obsessed with the prefect Grid and in doing so turns the once paradise back into the gladiator like wasteland seen in the first film.
I'm surprised that I am saying this about such a simple book but there is something poetic about Kevin busy building the perfect system alienating his actual son Sam and his program son C.L.U. which hopefully they will address in the film. They show what happened to TRON which explains why we have yet to see him in any of the trailers.
The dialogue is not perfect. There are some downright stupid lines and the only way I was able to get through the story was imagining the actors doing the voices for the characters. The action ranges from cool to unrecognizable. Sometimes the art can be good but other times you cant even see what the hell is going on. But my problems aside I think the book is good. I would buy the hardcover coming soon and enjoy it as it is really cool.
My problems still stick with it but overall, I give it a 7.5/10 which is good in my book.
