USER EDITORIAL: The Arrogance Of Outlandish Opinions

Opinions are fine and dandy. We all have them. Some may be the general consensus, and some may be outright offensive, but alas, we all have them.

I will illustrate this with a personal example. My favorite CBM (until the Avengers) was The Incredible Hulk, I am an avid Hulk fan with a collection of Hulk merchandise on my wall. Now, The Incredible Hulk came out the same year as Iron Man, and The Dark Knight. Both of those films destroyed the Hulk in the box office, and Nolans film destroyed Iron man as well. But it never bothered me, I even liked Iron Man more than the Dark Knight. (Taboo, I know) But seeing The Dark Knight smash records never bothered me. Maybe because I did in fact enjoy it, but I still liked Iron Man and TIH more. However, I never questioned it, or thought it deserved anything less. Hell, the only thing that bothered me was how Two-Face was completely overshadowed by the Joker, but even then, I never said "Heath doesn't deserve the Oscar" and no, not because he passed, if he was alive I still would not have questioned it, because who am I to say that? And don't get me wrong, Heath was amazing in the Dark Knight, but I thought Aaron Eckhart deserved his fair amount of praise as well, just my opinion. And like I said, opinions are good, and they do matter. These days people let other people speak for them all the time, so it is good to see someone make their own mind up. Even if they disagree. But there is a proper and improper way to do so. Saying that the movie deserves less than what it has earned because YOU were not blown away is frankly the most idiotic thing I have ever heard. I cannot comprehend the logic behind it. How big an ego does someone need to have to say that?

Okay, YOU were not impressed. Guess what, YOU are not everyone. What you say is not law. What you say is not fact. If you were underrwheled, well damn. Sorry to hear it, better luck next time. It is impossible to please everyone. But just because you didn't like it, does not mean that we all have to share your feelings. Same way you do not have to share ours. That's the beauty of opinions, nobody is right, but nobody is wrong either. It's just the way people handle them that makes the difference. Saying you didn't like a certain movie, or it didn't astonish you like it did everyone else is fine. People have said on this site that the Avengers was not their favorite movie, but so long as they were respectful, they weren't bashed. At least I haven't see that happen, but I've seen people be respectful of the opinions of others. But back to the point, saying that it deserves less than what it has earned because you did not like it is like saying "The movies success should be dependent on how much I, and ONLY I, liked it. My opinion is fact, and everyone else is wrong if they disagree with me" It doesn't even say anything about the movie, it just makes people look like arrogant tools whose egos could rival Kanye Wests.

It is early in the morning, I haven't slept yet. So this may be a bit harsh, Hell, it may not even make sense. But it is something I see often on this site that bothers me to no end.
