AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER Has Become The Fastest 2022 Movie To Pass $1 Billion At The Global Box Office

Though it did get off to a slower start than analysts predicted, James Cameron's Avatar: The Way of Water has now passed the $1 billion mark at the global box office - and it did so in record time.

Though some seem to be under the impression that Avatar: The Way of Water has been underperforming since it hit theaters a couple of weeks ago (it didn't have quite as big an opening weekend as expected), James Cameron's sequel has now passed the $1 billion mark at the global box office - and it did so in record time.

Hitting the milestone after just 14 days on general release, The Way of Water is the fastest film of 2022 to reach a billion, and the sixth quickest of all time. Only two other movies have managed it this year: Top Gun: Maverick (which took 31 days) and Jurassic World Dominion (which took more than four months).

The sci-fi adventure has also crossed $300 million domestically, and sits just behind Top Gun: Maverick as the third highest-grossing film of 2022.

Cameron has noted that the movie will need to hit $2 billion before the end of its theatrical run just to break even, so it still has a long road ahead.

With Avatar: The Way of Water, the cinematic experience reaches new heights as Cameron transports audiences back to the magnificent world of Pandora in a spectacular and stirring action-packed adventure.

Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Way of Water begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.

Directed by James Cameron and produced by Cameron and Jon Landau, the Lightstorm Entertainment Production stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang and Kate Winslet. Screenplay by James Cameron & Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver. Story by James Cameron & Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver & Josh Friedman & Shane Salerno. David Valdes and Richard Baneham serve as the film’s executive producers.

@Comicmoviejunki - The people who are buying tickets, going out to see it clearly disagree.

@Comicmoviejunki - I’m not a fan of the films myself, but this race to break even delights me to no end.

@UniqNo - just because someone buys tickets to a film doesn't make it interesting. I bought tickets yo the original and was pissed halfway through. The visuals were great but the film was completely bland and uninteresting.

@ClungesForever - opened in China with the rest of the world. Only place I know it hasn't come out is Russia.

China, and the US to a degree have had mad covid restrictions and snow storms to be dealing with and it still managed to cross 1 b in under 2 weeks.

Thate 3d price tags defo helped boost it. It also helps that its a visually stunning movie. About 20 min too long I thought but great otherwise.

Wait wtf this movie needs to make $2b to break even, There no way that's true. I know the last one was extremely successful but that seems like a unnecessarily huge risk.
