I'm so disappointed that this didn't make more. I went to the midnight premiere, the theater wasn't even packed.

^^Famous last words! so far its at $344,170,000 worldwide... with china's opening weekend being $45 million.
the numbers aren't even in yet for Japan's opening weekend, and if any country has been waiting for this movie, its Japan, the birthplace of both the Kaiju and the Mecha Genres. In a country where disaster movies always do well and with the leading lady being Japanese, this film is going to smash some records in Japan.

I fully expect this movie to break AT LEAST 400 mill by the end, its probable that it could top 450.

This film is perfect franchise material and people forget that franchises do WAY better on the second movie, so even if this film were to have just broken even, or even if it had just failed to break even, a sequel would still get green-lit. A sequel will already have tens of millions of tickets sold by the time it is announced, fans of the previous film and friends of theirs who heard the word of mouth.
You only have to look at the Pirates moves to see this, the best critically of them? The first, the worst at box office? The first. I mean hell, On Stranger Tides still made over a billion internationally.
The fact that this film is set to make a SUBSTANTIAL return on investment for the studios means that we are definitely going to see pacific rim 2 in a few years time.
