The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision blog published an exclusive report that a Sony film based on the soon-to-be-published Image comic DESCENDER will be produced by Josh Bratman. DESCENDER's writer, Jeff Lemire, and artist, Dustin Nguyen, are attached as executive producers. The first issue of DESCENDER is due in comic shops on March 4, 2015.

The story of DESCENDER is a science-fiction tale set in a future where any form of autonomous artificial intelligence (android, robot, etc.) is hunted across the stars to destruction. One such robot, TIM-21, will flee bounty hunters along with a crew of unlikely companions. TIM and crew will set out from a distant mining colony and fly from world to world, facing danger and adversity at every turn.  TIM-21 is said to be very lifelike, yet feared by the bounty hunters as a key to galactic destruction.

Nominated for 8 Eisner awards, Lemire recently concluded a run on DC's 'Green Arrow' and will soon begin work on Marvel's 'Hawkeye.' Nguyen is widely known for his work on several 'Batman' titles.

Former Oscar nominee Michael De Luca -- whose credits include executive producer or producer on 'American History X,' 'The Social Network,' 'Captain Phillips,' 'Blade,' 'Blade II,' 'Zathura,' 'Thirteen Days,' 'Dark City,' and NOT a single 'Spider-Man' movie – will oversee for the studio. With productions like those to his credit maybe this film is in good hands. Of course he also produced 'Lost in Space,' 'The Long Kiss Goodnight' and both 'Ghostrider' films, so let's keep our fingers crossed that he brings his genius game to this film.

So, Sony is going to make a movie based on a comic that hasn't even released its first issue yet?

INVINCIBLE and the Guardians of the Globe? That INVINCIBLE?
If the right people made it, it could be very cool.

And I think The Walking Dead is better on television. Showrunners on cable have more creative freedom than most directors on 'blockbuster' flims. Christopher Nolan, Steven Spielberg and handful of other filmmakers get creative control from the studios, but the executives interfered in many of the sci-fi and DC comics properties that stank. Same thing happened to Sam Rami on Spider-Man 3 and Marc Webb on TAS2 -- Studio Execs forced too many villains and disparate plot elements into the films. They ended up being cr@p.

Rumor is scarlet pimp..

the film will show us the inhumans team, probably at the end or after credits, and black panther himself may be 'enhanced' by them.

I hope that De Luca brings in the people who worked with him on Blade and Blade II or Dark City or Zathura, then we should get a high quality, well made, entertaining film.

You guys wanna know how bad TASM2 was?

Hellboy is now more profitable in terms of movies than Spider-Man.

Hellboy's last film did better than Spidey's in terms of nearly doubling it's budget.

Hellboy 2's budget was 85 million, got back 165 million.

TASM2 had a budget of 435 million and got back 708 million.

Sure TASM2 made more in the box office but when you look at how much you spent and how much you earned, you nearly doubled your budget with Hellboy 2. Only 10 million short from doubling it's budget.

TASM2 needed 870 million to double it's budget.

Plus in the second weekend, Hellboy 2 had to face Momma Mia and THE DARK KNIGHT while TASM2 faced Neighbors.

@Levitikuz, where did you get $435 million as the budget figure for ASM2? Are you including marketing and distribution?

As I said above, the studio executives forced Marc Webb to put in elements he didn't want and it showed. The whole was less than the sum of the parts. I'm not defending it at all.

And ASM2 didn't pay off the promise of ASM1 or live up to Andrew Garfield's and Emma Stone's performances.

Am sure they've read at least the first(if not more since am sure Lemire is more then ahead and has gotten a few issues done). It is a very cool looking sci-fi story(look for the preview) with what am sure was a very cool pitch from Lemire/Image/.
