JURASSIC WORLD Director Colin Trevorrow Isn't A Fan Of The Idea Of A FAST & FURIOUS Crossover

Speculation is still swirling that the Jurassic World and Fast & Furious franchises will eventually crossover, but filmmaker Colin Trevorrow isn't necessarily on board with idea. Read on for details...

The Jurassic World trilogy recently wrapped up with Dominion, and despite the movie being a box office hit, there's currently no word on future plans for the franchise. Funnily enough, the Fast & Furious series is also nearing its end, leaving Universal Pictures without any set path for two of its most popular and profitable properties.

For years, fans have joked that both franchises should be mashed together for a bonkers crossover event, and there's no denying that it could be a lot of fun. After all, now the racing series has headed into outer space, why not have Dominic Toretto punch a T-Rex?

Jurassic World Dominion established that dinosaurs now roam the Earth, so it wouldn't be as big a stretch as, say, the Jump Street series being mashed up with Men in Black (a crossover we still wish had happened).

Jurassic World and Jurassic World Dominion director Colin Trevorrow has been doing the rounds to promote the latter's upcoming Blu-ray release and was asked by ComicBook.com (via ActioNewz.com) for his thoughts on a potential crossover. Unsurprisingly, he's not a huge fan of the idea!

"I mean of course not," the filmmaker initially responded when asked if he'd like to see Vin Diesel's action hero square off with a dinosaur. "Because I am obviously like the most earnest maker of Jurassic Park movies that we have. I think that if one came in looking to watch them ironically as opposed to earnestly that might be exactly where you go."

"This idea is so new. That wasn't allowed when I was a kid, you didn't get to just like you did when you were playing with the toys, you smash them together. Now it's like, well whatever your parent company happens to own, you can [use]."

As for a possible Jurassic crossover he would like to be involved with, Trevorrow added, "I guess it would be 'Bourne' because that's...I feel like him running away from dinosaurs, he'd be effective but like I put raptor we kind of did something in that vein."

Following the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home last December, Hollywood certainly seems keen on delivering these fan-pleasing meetings on the big screen. However, making them a reality is often easier said than done due to legal issues, and past experience shows that mixing franchises - such as Alien vs. Predator - can have very poor results.

Ultimately, it's Universal calling the shots, so we'll see what happens down the line!

In other words, that's a great idea.

@MUTO123 - it would be better than Dominion!

@MUTO123 - one thing I can say about fast and furious over the recent jurassic Park movies, they aren't boring.

Dominion is a glorified James Bond/Indiana Jones with a little bit of dinosaurs. Oh how far the franchise has fallen, when JP3 is leagues better than the last two.. there's a problem

@bobevanz - this globe-trotting, conspiracy-uncovering, animal trafficking, child kidnapping and CIA-involved story definitely didn't feel very Jurassic.

It was a fun movie with dinosaurs, but not a movie about dinosaurs.

crossover?

"Following the success of Spider-Man: No Way Home last December, Hollywood certainly seems keen on delivering these fan-pleasing meetings on the big screen. "

- Oh you mean like Jurassic World Dominion, the movie that also delivered a fan pleasing meeting by getting together all three of the original main characters of the original movie (Dr. Alan Grant, Dr. Elle Sadler and Dr. Ian Malcolm) who haven't been in a movie together since the original Jurassic Park in 1993 and having them not only appear in a film together but interact with the main characters of the Jurassic World movie something fans have been wanting to see since first hearing about Jurassic World?

Like seriously if you're going to bring up Spider Man No Way Home in relation to this franchise you should kind of remember Dominion already did that. Yeah I get bringing up properties owned by Universal and asking if they should cross over but Universal is likely focused on "bringing back old casts for the sake of expanding our nostalgia" kind of crossovers now. We had a bit of that in F9 but I have a feeling the last Fast and the Furious movies will focus on that instead of say a crossover with Jurassic World which just doesn't make any sense honestly.

Each Jurassic Park film is worst than the last. Always.

@GhostDog - I mean, I think jurassic world was at least a step up from 3.

...God why am I defending this franchise in any way outside the original? What has my life become?
DianaGohan
DianaGohan - 8/18/2022, 10:45 PM
@GhostDog - Disagree with that actually. Lost World was horrendously boring and preachy so Jurassic Park 3 due to being much shorter and less whiny was better. And the first Jurassic World was actually fun and enjoyable. Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom suckedddddddddddddd hard that is easily the worst of the Jurassic Park movies. Dominion isn't great but honestly it's a much better watch then Fallen Kingdom because I'd much rather follow around the original 3 leads then the support from Fallen Kingdom.

@Origame - Jurassic World is easily the 2nd best in the franchise, behind the original, of course.

JP2 and 3 were awful.

@GhostDog - My favorite was the first, and my second was the last. This last one was sincerely most exciting, more suspenseful, had a wider variety of dinosaurs, showed more dinosaurs fighting each other, shows more of some of the cool dinosaurs we only saw briefly in the other films, the dialogue was somewhat more intelligent, there were less really stupidly impossible scenes (for a dino film), more than the 2nd through 5th films, and I really did enjoy the camaraderie between the leads.

But then, I'm legally insane, so, there's that.

@DianaGohan - JW: Dominion was my second favorite (I know, that's not saying much) of the six movies. I would say why, but that would be repeating what I stated below.

I saw it during it's last week at the theater and wish I had seen it before then so I could have seen it a second time at the theater. I'll get it on Blu-ray when I have to money to do that.

This crossover sounds so ridiculous that I'm slightly interested, which is a high level of interest I have for anything Colin Trevorrow related which is none.

@TheVandalore - exactly. This is a great ‘macro’ take on this situation. Imagine the millions in free internet promotion as this would trend for months. Guarantee it would make money. Would destroy whatever shreds of artistry remained on the corpses of these two franchises but, man, it would be a ride watching this trend endlessly on the interwebs.

Abbot & Costello Meet The Mummy. Snow White and the Three Stooges. Dracula versus the Wolfman. The franchise crossover is hardly new, MCU just made it an actual storytelling device instead of a gimmick.

But hell, bring it back as a one shot gimmick.

@Reeds2Much - yeah I didn't like hoe the mcu came in and people acted like that just never happened before.

I think it's terrible we can't enjoy something for improving the formula or bringing it back into popularity or that. No, it's gotta be the first.

People were talking about captain marvel being the first female led superhero when we literally had wonder woman right before it. Black panther was called the first black superhero, ignoring blade. Deadpool was called the first r rated superhero movie also ignoring blade (blade is getting mad disrespect this gen). Just wtf?

@Reeds2Much - There's like a whole series of movies that are all in the same universe and interconnect and continue off from one another in the Dracula, Wolfman and Frankenstein world.
LSHF
LSHF - 8/19/2022, 12:15 AM
@dagenspear - Yes, I enjoyed the "original" shared universe of the Universal horror films from the 30's and 40's when I was growing up. It wasn't difficult to put them together when the time came. They just made some decent horror films that took place in the same time period and somewhat neighboring locations.

And they didn't need a person to "connect" them all together. It wasn't that complicated.

It's just confusing how the current Universal studio can't just do what it successfully did decades ago. They f#cking created the blue-print!!!

I never seen more than a few clips of the F&F movies and I get they're made for dopey teenage boys, so I won't be too hard on them, but they're not for me at all.

The first JP is pretty good to very good spectacle imo, but none of the Jurassic movies after that are very good imo.

Take two dumb franchises that seemingly have nothing to do with each other and squish then together and you'd probably get...
