PETA Loves How JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM Rescued Dinosaurs

I finally decided to go see Jurassic World: Born Free, yesterday.

I thought 'It can't be that bad'.

I was wrong.

Everything that PETA loves about the film was probably it's biggest problem.

They basically took the most terrifying movie monster of 1993 and turned it into a cute little puppy.

The movie is absolutely ridiculous. It builds on one of the worst parts of the last film and makes it even more eye-rollingly bad.

It was like watchig a spoof. The scene where Chris Pratt is watching home video recordings of him playing bal with his Raptors gets him all teary eyed and he decides to join the rescue effort. That's seriously in a Jurassic Park movie?

Remember the raptor wrangler from the first movie? How he goes after the Raptors and they close in on him and he says "Clever girl"? Well we somehow went from that to a similar scene at the end of Fallen Kingdom, but instead, Chris Pratt pets the damn thing saying "Don't worry, she won't hurt us".

What the fvck happened?!?!?

Instead of the Raptor eating them, it's a romantic scene where the Raptor and the wrangler that raised it in captivity, the walking, talking happy meal that is Chris Pratt's character, are forced to part ways. And we're supposed to get all weepy eyed.

I thought to myself "Please don't have a shot of the raptor looking back all whistfully. Please don't do it."
They fvcking did it.

So, yeah, the first movie was about how terrifying these creatures are, this new one is about how cute they are. We don't want the heroes to kill them, but to save them.

But it's very, very conflicted about this supposed message.
It wants to habe it's cake and eat it.
We're supposed to want to save the life of the Velociraptor, but to kill the Indo-Raptor.
And it doesn't help that the Indo-Raptor looks almost exactly like a raptor but bigger and slightly more decorated. It's so confusing. I'm I supposed to be scared of this vicious predator or am I supposed to want to save it's life? Which one is this again?

And (spoilers not spoilers) after the good raptor kills the bad raptor the movie breathes it's sigh of relief and a joke or two is made, etc. But the good raptor is still free. This is not a believable scenario. There is no real investment from the filmmaker and therefore none from any sensible audience member.

It's okay as a brainless monster movie, but that's really not what Jurassic Park should be.

One of the major problems with all the sequels is that the action scenes have not got that investment of believability. It's a lot harder to suspend your disbelief. The first film's scenes were visceral and clever. They cheated a little bit, but in clever ways. They didn't use too much magic realism or mary-sue serendipity. This one does. And when an action scene cheats as much as this movies scenes do, it's really hard to become properly invested in them, beyond being aware that you're watching a fun, unserious piece of entertainment.

The divide between the action scenes in this movie and the action scenes in the original is never more evident than when the film homages several sequences from the original film, shot for shot, but just not as good. All the flaws become self-evident in these moments.


It is just a senseless, dumb actioner. A Dwayne Johnson movie gives it's audience more credibility.


You find yourself laughing at the movie and shouting at the screen at how absurd certain situations are and why they would never happen. It's like an '80s slasher movie.


At one point the good guys are being chased by the bad guys (spoiler not spoiler) and the bad guys catch up. With guns. But they decide not to kill the good guys. No, instead they lock them up in a cage.


I mean, what the fvck were they gonna do? Just kill them later on and give them time to escape? Let them free later on so they go to the police? It's so stupid.

At that point in th emovie, I was just like "What am I supposed to be invested in right now? The bad guys are obviously not going to kill them or they would have done it when they finally caught up to the good guys faces with their guns, earlier on. So.... what do I want them to escape for? Because I'm so invested in them as well written characters? Heh, no. So what's the situation?" I mean, they had to go after the bad guys and stop the bad guys. It's a melodrama, I know this, but the film doesn't really let us know why they have to. The bad guys are selling the dinosaurs that they just rescued from the island to people who will use them as weapons. Unscruplous? Sure. Any of the good guys business? No. Do I care what happens? Not in the slightest. There was no real pressing need.


Shit, I'm ranting...

Okay, be positive Gwen... say something nice abou this crapfest of a flick...

I feel that to be really fair to this movie I should compare it not to the original Jurassic Park, but to the first sequel The Lost World: Jurassic Park, since this is the first sequel the reboot. So... unlike Jurassic World (which was way, way, way worse than the first Jurassic Park) this movie is only way worse tha The Lost World: Jurassic Park. Just one "way", not three.


Oh, and I enjoyed the style-over-substance gothic sequence, senseless and meaningless though it was. It was quite fitting as a throwback to brainless horror movies. I mean, why on earth was the little girl in the bed all wrapped up in her covers, lying down?!?! There's a raptor n her house. It was chasing her. She;s in the muddle of a chase and she decides to lie down so she can get warpped up and look like a little girl scared of the monster in the closet so the director can have his fun by making it look as if it's a throwback to Nosferatu or something?! Give me a fvcking break, Mr. Bayona.

Okay, I tried to say something nice, but it got away from me. That's how bad the movie is. It's hard to say something nice. So I won't say anything at all. (Y'know, except for everything I've just said).

Basically PETA like the movie because it supposedly pro-dino-life. I get it. Life is important. And like the little girl says, when she dooms the human race, "They're alive, like me".


Sure. Tell that to the Indo-raptor that you were just happy to see murdered.

PETA make a very good point about the treatment of real animals in movies and the message of animal protection and their rights as living things is there, it still applies to the real world. Yes their CG but a girl I know who's a real animal lover said she got upset when they left thr brachiosaur on the island as the volcano took over!

You know they could’ve just made more. They did make those.

PETA does realize all the "animals" in the movie are genetically engineered chimera mutants grown in a lab for the purpose of entertainment, right?
