Lionsgate's Power Rangers proved to be quite the pleasant surprise when it stormed into theaters last month, but with its current worldwide box office total standing at a little over $133.5 million, its hopes for a sequel now hinge on a better-than-solid performance in both China & Japan, which is where its due out on May 12 and July 15, respectively.

The Dean Israelite-directed reboot is expected to perform well in Japan this summer, due to the franchise's strong ties there, but China still remains somewhat of a wildcard as even two weeks out, it's hard to determine how the Middle Kingdom will ultimately respond. One thing that does seemingly play into the film's favor is the presence of Chinese actor Ludi Lin, who stars as Zack the Black Ranger, and has some name recognition in his home country, having appeared in the second highest-grossing Chinese film ever, Monster Hunt.

With the impending release in China, a new triptych poster has been released featuring the Rangers racing into action while the Command Center and the Megazord loom in the stadium background. Check it out below:

@NoMeaning45 - Hopefully you'll still be on board if they make Tommy into a girl.

@TheLight - I'm okay with that, really.

@NoMeaning45 - Glad to know. Some fans won't be.

@Mrsinister - You have to remember that Tommy Oliver is the most well known veteran ranger of the original tv continuity. Some won't be as open to the change of gender simply because some fans will want to see a version of Tommy Oliver close to the show.

@TheLight - Ya I agree with that but even a guy actor won't be able to hold a candle to the original. I'm sure it will be a guy as the new Tommy

@TheLight - I'm open to change as long as it works both ways... i.e Tommy Oliver being a girl...Johnny Storm being black... a white Blade or Black Panther or something. Fair is fair and we gotta be open to change right?

@NoMeaning45 - Pretty decent movie - despite the very unispired ending.

@RebelCommander - Agreed. Let's just hope that everyone else can handle that.

@ogrodafloresta - I actually the entire third act was very boring and dull to me.

The first two acts were more character driven and I enjoyed that.

It kinda shocks me the part where they got the suits finally and started fighting is where I lost interest.

@ODanil - Maybe the Command Chamber? That scene in the poster itself wasn't in the movie. Very misleading.

@ODanil @Selonian, Yea its the command center/Zordon's ship that crashed on Earth. In the movie we only see it crashed and buried in the rock...

This movie had better cinematography and character arcs than anyone anticipated. Hopefully it has a sequel and can make the power rangers part better

I actually really enjoyed this movie. Not perfect by any means, but had me leaving the theater with a giant smile on my face. I hope it makes enough money for a sequel too.

I think Japan will bring this movie some big big profit considering its origin and I assume that Super Sentai is still popular there.
