Bat in the Sun has released a new teaser trailer for beloved Power Rangers star Jason Davis Frank's final performance as Erik Reed in Legend of the White Dragon.

Following JDF's untimely demise, Bat in the Sun questioned whether they would release the project but it seems the independent production studio has chosen to honor the former Power Rangers Zeo Red Ranger by forging ahead.

Despite the ongoing 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike Legend of the White Dragon received a waiver to film reshoots due to the project's independent nature.

The footage below features some intense action and surprisingly good VFX. There are also some appearances by faces that should be familiar to fans of Arrow and the John Wick franchise.

Legend of the White Dragon is an upcoming American science fiction superhero film directed by Bat in the Sun's Aaron Schoenke and was crowdfunded through Kickstarter.

In a Kickstarter update, Bat in the Sun shared, "Because of our commitment to making this the best possible movie we can, (one that we know Jason would be super proud of), we needed to complete new reshoots to finalize the project and make it even better! More than anything, we want to do absolute justice to Jason’s legacy and create the best possible movie we can. This means the new release date will now be Q1 of 2024."

The film stars former Power Rangers standouts Jason David Frank, Jason Faunt (Power Rangers Time Force), Cerina Vincent (Power Rangers Lost Galaxy),  and Ciara Hanna (Power Rangers Megaforce).

The film will also star Aaron Schoenke, Mayling Ng (Wonder Woman, The Suicide Squad), David Ramsey (Arrow), social media star Andrew 'King Bach' Bachelor, Mark Dacascos (Brotherhood of the Wolf, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum), and Michael Madsen (Kill Bill, Sin City).

Former Power Rangers star Johnny Yong Bosch (Bleach: TYBW) was also originally attached to the project but was forced to depart the film due to scheduling conflicts.

Legend of the White Dragon follows Erik Reed, a former superhero who is framed for the destruction of a city and forced to go into hiding. Three years later, he returns to clear his name and reunite with his family. He must battle a new villain who is seeking revenge on the White Dragon.

The film is scheduled to be released in theaters during the first quarter of 2024. Per Bat in the Sun, the plan is to give the film a theatrical release.

Anything King Bach is in is usually abysmal.

@SonOfAGif - The Babysitter movies on Netflix are actually surprisingly decent (the first more than the second) as throwback schlocky horror movies and he’s actually not bad in them - and this is coming from somebody who does not like him in most situations!

Keep in mind that this is effectively doing what he wasn't able to do with power rangers, mostly because power rangers has always been treated as a kids franchise. So despite this being named something different, you can view this as effectively the final time he's playing Tommy.

@Origame - Same, from what the Bathe in The Sun producer said...this film was the original pitch for the MMPR anniversary that happened this year. its just Saban didn't want to give him writer and producer credits so they later on stole this idea and try to pitch it again to him without any writer/producer credits. For that reason JDF didn't reprise as Tommy for the 30th anniversary special we got before his death and they scrapped the script. Saban screwed him over so he went solo and made this film with the other ranger actors as the true spiritual sequel to his tommy character.

@grif - It's a project JDF and the rest wanted to do with Power Rangers, but because of copyright issues (they didn't get the okay to make a Power Rangers movie, due to the deal with Netflix and other factors), they had to create a new IP.

White Dragon = White Tiger+ Green Dragon

It's basically for Power Rangers fans, but it's also trying to be something new.

@SheepishOne - So was this originally supposed to be Lord Drakkon?

@Drace24 - I don't think it was supposed to be Drakkon necessarily, but the idea in its inception was focused on an older Tommy Oliver teaming up with rangers across various PR teams. He might have become a combo of the Green/White ranger, but he wouldn't have been evil like Drakkon.

I don't really know much else, other than the team had been trying to make a PR movie for a while but kept getting turned down, until they decided screw it and made their own thing.

Looking solid for a crowdfunded film!
That being said I hate how Aaron Schoenke is casting himself in all his own movies. Getting some harsh Breen/Wiseau vibes from him

Well I'm glad they're giving his final acting role some kind of exposure. It looks cheap though, but i'm aware and also understand bat in the sun is more about fan fiction and fan films, so it gets a pass. I just hope they're not cashing in on his passing and using that as a way to promote it, if it's released for free, then I'll take that back, but it's going for theatrical from the reading of it...

He had so many years left to pursue a fulfilling life with his family and to bring so much joy to people he inspired.
The way he passed is so heartbreaking because it was so unnecessary. Even at his level of success, he experienced a deep dread that many of us feel in our lives. Still get really sad knowing he is gone.

Also, I just noticed this, but mark describes Jason as the zeo red ranger actor.

...like why? I mean, it's true. But he is known as so much more than that. From the start and more so in modern stories he's known more for his time as the green or white mighty Morphin ranger.
