In addition to the highly anticipated Lionsgate-produced reboot, which is due out March 2017, and the well-received line of MMPR graphic novels from BOOM! Comics, the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers are also receiving a brand new video game, courtesy of Bandai Namco Entertainment.

The game is titled Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Mega Battle and it will be available on both the Playstation 4 and the Xbox One, making it the first Power Rangers game to arrive on current-gen systems and the first game based solely on the original and most iconic team of Rangers to arrive in stores in over a decade. There's no exact release date just yet, but it's expected to hit stores in America January 2017.

The game is a classic beat-em-up, which should bring back fond memories for '90s kids of the 1994 Sega game based on the original TV series and its 1995 semi-sequel based on the movie. The new game will follow the first team, consisting of Jason, Trini, Billy, Kimberly, Zack & Tommy, through various re-imagined missions set during the first two seasons of the series.

Check out the reveal trailer, which shows off gameplay and reveals major villains, as well as the official press release below:

SANTA CLARA, Calif., (October 6, 2016) – BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment America Inc. today announces SABAN’S MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS™: MEGA BATTLE for the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system and Xbox One. The digital game will be available in the Americas in January 2017. For fans to enjoy, SABAN’S MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS: MEGA BATTLE reimagines and brings to life the classic adventures of the original SABAN’S MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS, one of the longest-running, kids action series in TV history. It will deliver classic beat-em-up gameplay and build upon the original series’ high-flying martial arts action and positive message of teamwork and honor; celebrating the nostalgia that surrounds SABAN’S MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS.

SABAN’S MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS: MEGA BATTLE features levels that are reminiscent of classic episodes from the first two seasons of SABAN’S MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS TV show. The game enables players to select their Power Ranger of choice and level-up his or her abilities throughout the game as they fight grotesque enemies and bosses. Adept use of martial arts, weapons, and giant Megazord™ battles will play crucial roles in ensuring players’ victory against evil. SABAN’S MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS: MEGA BATTLE will also feature a robust local co-op multiplayer mode where players can combine their powers to execute special attacks and spectacular displays of martial arts power. By utilizing the game’s skill tree, players can use points to learn new moves and abilities.

Long ago, the ancient wizard Zordon did battle with the evil witch Rita Repulsa. He eventually managed to defeat her in a game using five magic coins. As punishment for her loss, she was sealed in a canister on Planet Nemesis, a planet that travels close to Earth every 10,000 years. However, before being sealed away, Rita trapped Zordon in a time warp.

Millennia later, Rita and her minions escaped their prison and set out to conquer Earth. Zordon, desperate to stop her, had his assistant Alpha 5 recruit five "teenagers with attitude" (Jason Lee Scott, Zack Taylor, Billy Cranston, Trini Kwan, & Kimberly Ann Hart)  to counter her threat. They were granted the powers of the dinosaurs, and became the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers featured:
Austin St. John as Jason Lee Scott/Red Ranger
Thuy Trang as Trini Kwan/Yellow Ranger
David Yost as Billy Cranston/Blue Ranger
Amy Jo Johnson as Kimberly Ann Hart/Pink Ranger
Walter Jones as Zack Taylor/Black Ranger
Jason David Frank as Tommy Oliver/Green & White Ranger
Steve Cardenas as Rocky DeSantos/2nd Red Ranger
Karan Ashley as Aisha Campbell/2nd Yellow Ranger
Johnny Yong Bosch as Adam Park/2nd Black Ranger
Catherine Sutherland as Katherine Hillard/2nd Pink Ranger

@SmashHoles - Hell Yes!!!! I've never been first.

Either way, I'm beyond excited for this game. I love anything MMPR related.

@SmashHoles - I'm all over this.

Also, anyone who was a fan of Power Rangers should check out a game called Chroma Squad for PC.

Its an indie game, but its fantastic. You are the director of a Super Sentai tv show and can create your own Power Rangers type team. Everything from the suits, colors, weapon, names, etc.

You then film the episodes by playing them as if they were actual levels in the game. Very fun!
