ROBOCOP Remake is Officially Dead

I knew it!

Both the Financial Times and Moviehole have confirmed that director Darren Aronofsky (The Wrestler) has abandoned the "RoboCop" remake for good and that the project is now considered officially dead. This isn't really shocking news, since MGM is penniless, but it's unfortunate considering how much work Aronofsky has put in.

The movie is just one of many casualties. At this point, a new "James Bond" installment and an "Amityville Horror" remake cannot move forward. "Red Dawn" remake can't properly be marketed, and the proposed "Rocky" movie (without Sylvester Stallone) will probably never get off the ground.

As early as last year, MGM was targeting 2011 to have the "RoboCop" remake finished. Both Aronofsky and writer David Self (Road to Perdition) were working on the script and were planning to begin casting.

Other than Bond, I'm totally okay with them not remaking any of these classics. And WTF on Amityville?! Didn't the Ryan Reynolds remake just come out like 5 years ago?

good...this franchise doesn't need to be rebooted. The first film is such a landmark in film making and has some deeper meanings and is more or a less a satire on the american way of life and how having a huge company takes over the police. Any plans of making him sleeker or more advance is a shame to the character. He was supposed to be bulky and slow because of the technology of the time.

I never liked the idea of a Robocop remake.

"...and the proposed "Rocky" movie (without Sylvester Stallone) will probably never get off the ground."

Did anyone else catch this? 'Rocky' WITHOUT Sly? This is a SERIOUS WTF moment! Sylvester Stallone IS Rocky Balboa (he not only starred in the series, he created the @#$!-ing character!)! You can't make a 'Rocky' movie WITHOUT Stallone! That's like saying they're making the next 'Batman' film, but he's not Bruce Wayne! WTF people??!!!

I'll buy that for a doller
i'm actually glad the reboot fell through...Robocop is a film of it's time with a social commentary on the hedonism and corruption of America in the 80's...without that element it just would'nt be the same
