Bryan Singer Wants a Crack at Bringing STAR TREK Back to Television

Bryan Singer and Bryan Fuller are currently working on the remake of The Munsters, and the collaboration is going so well the two would like to combine forces and breathe new life into a Star Trek TV series.

Star Trek fans haven't had a product on the air since 2005, when Enterprise went off the air. While J.J. Abrams has breathed new life into the film franchise, no one as of yet has been able to resuscitate the brand for the small screen.

AICN has been contacted by Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies) who informs the site that:
the two Bryans, who have long (but separately) contemplated new “Star Trek” TV series, have discussed the possibility of pooling their resources to take a new corner of Gene Roddenberry’s multiverse to the small screen.

Fuller is currently the producer on NBC's The Munsters remake, which was recently retitled Mockingbird Lane. And Bryan Singer is on board as the director of the crucial pilot episode. If the show is successful it will go a long way to creating the type of confidence CBS would need in order to greenlight another Star Trek adventure.

Now the only reason to make a new Star Trek series would be to bring something new to the table. Much of the problem with Voyager was that it had an interesting premise, but didn't allow the natural conflicts that should of arose from two rival fleets joining forces to truly materialize on the screen. Another issue was that the character themselves were caricatures and not fully formed. Hopefully Singer and Fuller can bring a fresh new angle to the tale. Live long and prosper.

I would say 'just let him do it' - but it's not like you get a say in the matter.

JJ Abram's Star Trek reboot is good, but he will not want to get attached to the francise outside of his few movies. I'd support Bryan Singer doing this. It'd be interesting.

Enterprise was the last Trek show that went off the air in 2005, not Voyager.

As for Singer and Fuller...HELL NO!!!

That would be good news.

@SuperDude001: Abrams can't write Sci-Fi in a decent way though, for instance the way he uses tecnobabble in both his Star Trek film and Fringe is appaling, most of the terms used that weren't copied (or already established in the case of ST) were terribly out of place even to someone like me who knows only what has read in his country's equivalent of Scientific American.

@Arminies you mean the two Wolverine movies with the X-Men in them?

@DetBullok well, that sucks for you - maybe you should read up a bit more on scientific stuff. This country has more job openings in the scientific field than it knows what to do with - there just isn't enough qualified people to take those jobs. Maybe with Abrams throwing in scientific "technobabble" into a very cool film will inspire the kids to pursue those jobs and fill that need - because we need more people interested in science.

Maybe if he did a complete reboot of The Original Series (not like the alt. reality from J.J. Abrams) with a younger cast, bringing new ideas to the table in the case of reinventing villains like Kahn for the small screen.

Sexual preferences aside, Singer has proven that he can't be faithful to a story, it always seems to end up crap.

Enterprise, dude. Enterprise.

@nailbiter111 I think you meant Enterprise not Voyager. Voyager may not have been as good as TNG and DS9 but it was still pretty good and lasted 7 seasons. It was Enterprise that came last, was not very good, failed miserably and lasted only 4 seasons.
