While promoting his latest film, Super 8, JJ Abrams was asked by Cinemablend about when he starts working on next project. Although rumored to be involved in multiple projects, Abrams said he starts work on Star Trek next.

Said Abrams:

"The next thing we’re working on, and hopefully we’ll be able to pass information out sooner or later, is the next Star Trek.”

It has also been reported that the release date for the film could be pushed back Abrams also addressed those rumors.

“I care much more that it be good than it be ready. I’m, obviously doing everything I can to make sure that schedules don’t get screwed up. But I don’t think anyone wants a movie on time that’s not worth your time. We want to make sure it’s done right. The guys I’ve been working with are obviously brilliant so I’m really excited to get back into it. So this is something I’ve been working on pretty closely, so in part they’re like, fine we’ll meet you to discuss.”

Abrams was asked if the sequel will be shot in 3D as well.

“I’m not yet considering it, but you know, I haven’t gotten any phone call from people in suits. I know what’s good for me.”

Expect official announcements about Star Trek 2 soon.

Great! I was a BIG fan of the reboot. I'm glad they're starting this up, I feel like this wait time lost them a lot of the momentum they built up with the first film.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

This guy made the premise of a group of people sitting on a ship observing boring space worthwhile. Star Trek usually gave me the yawns, excluding Wrath of Kahn, the reboot, and First Contact. those right there were thrilling and action packed.

A sequel would be great.

To me, he's like the next spielberg....

...as long as he doesn't make another clover field :/

Please STOP calling this movie Star Trek II, it's not a reboot in the sense of starting the story all over again. The story starts in the future, When Spook meets Young Kirk he explains the story, I forget how many years right now, I think Spock said 80's years in the future. Meaning that the story starts off in Star Trek The Next Generation times.

The movie is a reboot in the sense that they need New actors to keep the stories going. This is Star Trek 12, not 2. Star Trek 2 is still the best Star Trek movie of all times and is The Wrath of Khan.

Thank You.

hehe sorry, a friend is goes by DJ Spook and phone auto corrects. Yea, I get it. but this is different. The story isn't starting all over again, it's moving fwd to the past, if that makes any sense.

Batman was different. The story was re told from the beginning, JJ Abrams story starts in the future.

@Comedian03

You must not be a big Star Trek fan either, if you're calling Spock "Spok".

tee hee.

NO 3D!! Hell NO! The Star Trek movies don't need it. It's all about the story, all about the drama that complements the minute humor, and the big honking space guns are only there to enhance it.

The first movie in the "reboot" was nothing more than a Star Wars rip-off. Just look at the similarities. Abrams knows nothing about the Star Trek universe or Roddenberry's vision. He's just cranking out popcorn flicks. Abram's ST movie was an action packed abomination.

I am so ambivalent about it. It is NOT a continuation of Star Trek. I view it as another universe all together. I enjoyed it as a "Star Trek meets Star Wars" type of movie, but it aint your classic Roddenberry Trek! I still want to see Roddenberry's vision done RIGHT!
And hopefully, JJ will fix some of his retarded mistakes (like the bridge and the engine room designs)

Just to keep things based in reality, JJ Abrams is certainly "marketing" himself as the next Speilberg, but he is NOT the next Speilberg.

Also, I recognize that many of you are young, but the latest Star Trek movie doesn't even come close to the best of 'Trek. There were so many good stories in the original series, and some even more amazing stories on the Next Generation, there's really no way to top them.

@pintoman- I grew up mainly on TNG and the Enterprise series. Both were really nice. TOS was good for its time though.

I appreciated Abram's take on Trek mainly because it resurrected the franchise from the ashes. ST has been dead for a while...he took liberties but it worked well for the non-trek fans.

@DanielGrimaldi- LMAO gotta love that "Spook" hahahahaha nice one

@bigshow2312- Dude 'Trek' IS a CBM...it's had its comics in the past...some people need to learn their history...

Take THAT Wolverine! lol
