The sequel to J.J. Abrams Star Trek movie will reportedly have a different take on a classic villain and will also feature some iconic creatures who will be given a more threatening demeanor.

Via Think McFly Think, here's the latest rumor about the Star Trek sequel.

The Klingons play a prominent role in Star Trek 2. The angle, according to our sources, plays up them up as a Nomadic sect of warrior aliens causing trouble for the Federation — think an intergalactic Taliban with their home-planet overrun by Tribbles. Yes, those Tribbles, here in the newly rebooted continuity viewed as "furry carnivorous creatures."

Again, take this rumor with salt at the ready. The source is the same site that reported that Warner Bros. has a shortlist of screenwriters for the sequel to the new Superman movie. Still, I'm not going to 100% write-off the site until we see how their Superman news shakes out. The site also reports that Kahn will definitely not be in the movie. If this pans out, are you satisfied with Klingons and Tribbles for the long-awaited sequel?

Star Trek is a 2009 American science fiction film directed by J. J. Abrams, written by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, distributed by Paramount Pictures. It is the eleventh film based on the Star Trek franchise and features the main characters of the original Star Trek television series, portrayed by a new cast. The film follows James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) and Spock (Zachary Quinto) aboard the USS Enterprise as they combat Nero (Eric Bana), a Romulan from their future who threatens the United Federation of Planets. The story takes place in an alternate reality due to time travel by both Nero and the original Spock (Leonard Nimoy). The alternate timeline was created in an effort to free the film and the franchise from established continuity constraints while simultaneously preserving original story elements.

The film earned high critical praise, gained a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is widely considered to be a successful reboot of the series. It was nominated for four Oscars at the 82nd Academy Awards and won the Academy Award for Best Makeup, making it the first Star Trek film to win an Oscar.

Tribbles would be interesting to see on the big screen. Specially if you take into account what Worf said in the DS9 episode. Even though its not the same time line it would be neat to see them over run by them.

I think you will see a nod to the tribbles in the next movie and nothing more. Perhaps someone has one as a pet, and it bites Kirk.

and yes, i agree with MovieTheaterLad, with the right marketing campaign, a tribble toy would make tons of money, esp if its not too expensive

Well how about this: these tribbles would be a special breed created by the Klingons that got a bit out of hand. Im imagining the Klingon leader saying this line to Kirk, Spock, amd Sulu: "We've had some trouble with tribbles."

Tribbles already made a cameo appearance in the NuTrekverse

"In an alternate reality, Montgomery Scott had tribbles at his station on the Delta Vega outpost. (Star Trek)"

This is bull stinky. No way it's Tribbles.
The studio is trolling us to talk about the film.
Unnecessary...most of us are gonna go see this film regardless.

Probably him...he's got the teeth-! Very scary.

Maybe The Tribbles in the NuTrekverse are like the Mogwai from Gremlins??

"never expose it to bright lights (especially sunlight, which will kill it); never get it wet (which will make it multiply); and never feed it after midnight (which will turn it into a gremlin)."
