Quentin Tarantino's STAR TREK Film Is "A Very Big Possibility;" Will Continue Working On It Later This Year

The idea of Quentin Tarantino directing a Star Trek movie is intriguing no matter who you ask. Yes, an R-rated Star Trek movie is a radical idea, and yes, Tarantino is not the first person you might think of to helm it - But if this deal comes together does indeed become the tenth film in Tarantino's iconic filmography, general audiences will have no choice but to pay for tickets.

Speaking to SlashFilm regarding the new edition of The Hateful Eight on Netflix, the director had this to say regarding his in-development Star Trek project:

It’s a very big possibility. I haven’t been dealing with those guys for a while cause I’ve been making my movie. But we’ve talked about a story and a script. The script has been written and when I emerge my head like Punxsutawney Phil, post-Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, we’ll pick up talking about it again.

The fact that the script (penned by The Revenant's Mark L. Smith) has already been written bodes well for movement on the project this year, but only as long as Paramount, Abrams, and Tarantino come to an agreement.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is one of the most anticipated films of the year. It will be exciting to see how the rest of Tarantino's 2019 pans out, especially if positive news regarding his take on Star Trek comes to light.

@L0RDbuckethead - Hell yeah. Fingers and toes crossed, but it’s feeling less and less likely.

Interesting how his 10th and final film will be based on an existing property. That is if he sticks to word.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - He said multiple times, "It might be 11, but it won't be 13 or 14." I can see Tarantino considering his Trek film a "bonus."

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - I think he can get away with saying it’s not technically his tenth film because he didn’t write the script. Mark L. Smith wrote the script based on Tarantino’s idea. Someone else might even end up directing it, but he’ll still have story and producer credit and they can market the film with that.

Give us Once Upon Time.

Star Trek should stick to TV and give us a Captain Pike series!

It would be ironic if Tarintino is the guy to reset the Trek universe back to its original state.

Real Trek ended when Voyager came home...and that was pushing it. We'll never see it's like again.

Won’t be the 10th film in that particular connected universe of his, but beyond that by all means let it happen.

@Ha1frican - I haven't gone over there yet, but from what I've read, you can still watch the proper theatrical cut as it was put into exhibitors a couple years ago. But you can ALSO watch it as like a 4 I think about 50minute-ish episode miniseries, that will include 25 new minutes of footage.
