First, this movie is by no means written by committee. It has been written by ONE team. Me, Alex [Kurtzman], and Damon [Lindelof]. Thanks to the protective umbrella of the success of our first movie and JJ Abrams, we get less studio interference than almost any other production around. This process is the OPPOSITE of script by committee.

As for a full time trek staff, you should know that we have been working on the video game, the comics, and the story for the last two years. Trek has never been far from our minds. And we were doing all of that without even having a deal with the studio to do so (and our deal is only for script. all other stuff is pro bono to make the universes consistent). We were acting in good faith.

The reason the script wasn’t finished until recently is mostly for strategic philosophical reasons. We were not willing to turn anything in until we knew for sure that we had a start date, based on JJ’s availability. If we had written the script a year ago and it sat on the shelf, it would not have been current. Nothing messes up a script like it sitting on the shelf, because then everyone does get time to second guess and wonder, and then movies fall apart.

Finally, you should know the story hasn’t change, the structure hasn’t changed, and the action sequences haven’t changed. Most changes are minor. The changes I suspect Quinto is referring to are the character interactions as we fine tune the level of their various friendships. How well they all know each other and what they’ve all been through off screen is a nuanced yet essential part of the actors understanding where they are coming from with each other. While discussing the exact same plot elements, what they’ve been through colors their attitude toward each other. And given that the time past in real life is different than the amount of time passed in the movie world, it takes a polish to get it just right. That’s what polishes (a legal contractual word in our contract) are for.

Does any of this mean the movie will be any good? No. But if it’s no good, it will be because we were wrong to execute exactly what we wanted. Not because we changed our minds or someone changed our minds for us.

Nothing too revealing, but we need something to chew on as the wait until the villain reveal continues. On a more interesting note, he talked about how J.J Abrams is planning to shoot the movie. He's gonna shoot it in 2D! What did none of you get the joke? In all seriousness, read the following:

As an interesting addendum, the weirdest kind of changes comes from how JJ wants to move the camera. Thanks to advances in film making, we can move the camera around the ship in ways you couldn’t before — so sometimes lines will change or even who says them may change based on their position on the set relative to the coolest choreography of the camera moves. Keeps you on your toes as a writer for sure, but is is fun and worth it.

I can't wait for this. I hope there is more McCoy in this one then the first one. The Kirk/McCoy/Spock friendship dynamic was one of the best things about the Original Star Trek and was never really as successfully repeated in any of the other Star Trek incarnations.

I hope that they begin to reintroduce the different races, gradually, into the series soon.

I'm with you on that one @Scorpion8125- Come on J.J give us something new and fresh!! If I hear Khan is back, my excitement will be replaced with complete rage. From "Space Seed" to "Wrath of Khan" and I even read the comic- "Khan Ruling in Hell" which was a story that showed the events that occurred between Space Seed and WOK. Basically my point is- Khan's story has already been told in FULL. So there is really no point in revisiting that character again. Might as well be original and try something NEW. Abrams needs to make his own mark on Trek mythology and a good way to do it, would be by introducing a completely new villain.

Trust me folks- I watched all the series and i've seen enough of Khan to write a biography on the guy. He's a great villain. But time to leave him to his rest. Give us something new Abrams. Do your thing and don't allow the 'khan-spirators' to ruin the COMPLETELY NEW UNIVERSE YOU ESTABLISHED IN 2009.

Again, I don't 'hate' the Khan character, like I said i've seen 'Space Seed', 'WOK' and read the in-between comic- 'Khan: Ruling in Hell' but forgive me for wanting something different for a villain. Ok rant done

;D

@Dmon- I agree with you there. Karl Urban by far had the most accurate interpretation of his character/actor. I actually felt bad he kinda slipped into the background a bit too much towards the 3rd act of the film.

Btw- Abrams, give us some hott vulcan tang in this film. I'm sure some vulcan chicks survived the planet's explosion. Give us something like T'Pol for christ's sake.

@LP4 I agree no Khan and should be something new. But I would not mind a cameo from a minor character from TOS like the Klingons Kor, Kang, or Koloth. Kor being my favorite.

@Dmon- Oh hell yeah, Klingons are great. In fact I got pretty pumped when the rumor of klingons first popped up. But for the central main villain...seeing Khan again (yawn) strikes me as being less than stellar. But seeing as how many khan-spirators keep harrassing and bombarding Abrams and his writers about Khan in interviews, go figure i'll end up eating my own words if he ends up popping up in the dang film LOL.

I still hope the Talosians will pop up in the film to some capacity. Abrams...give us Talos IV

I don't think they should attempt to redo the Wrath of Khan. They should tell new stories with the known races and introduce some of the other, more exotic races, later. That's enough material for a slew of films. It IS fun to say Khan, though.

KHHAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNN!!!!!!
