The Star Trek co-writer and producer popped onto the comments section over at TrekMovie where he answered some of the questions put forward by fans and gave-up some tantalising information regarding both the budget and scope of the sequel.

DS9 IN PRIME TIME: boborci. What is the budget for this film? Is it the same as the last or are they giving you more?
boborci: More

boborci: Bigger? Yup

According to Movie Insider, the budget for JJ Abram's 2009 reboot is estimated to have been $150,000,000 (the most for any Trek film). While a bigger budget certainly sounds good, part of the reason for this could be Paramount's requiring Abrams to convert the film to 3D.

Despite this new information, there is still no word on the villains and the premise of the movie, but hopefully the bigger budget and scope implies that the sequel can surpass its predecessor.

Starring: Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, John Cho, Benedict Cumberbatch, Noel Clarke, Nazneen Contractor, Joseph Gatt, Alice Eve and Peter Weller. Screenplay by: Damon Lindelof, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. Directed by: JJ Abrams. The sequel, which as of yet does not have a subtitle, will release on May 17, 2013.

Kinda hoping this film can go back to exploration. I'd love a villain of course don't get me wrong. But Trek has always been about 'seeking out strange new worlds' I wanna see that for the new film AND in IMAX
