Iron Man 3 isn't the only big 2013 blockbuster to be released in the UK ahead of North America! It has today been confirmed that J.J. Abrams' Star Trek Into Darkness will be out on this side of the pond in IMAX 3D, 3D and 2D even sooner than expected. Read on for details!

Star Trek Into Darkness is easily this year's most highly anticipated sci-fi movie, and it has today been confirmed that it will be released in the UK one week earlier on May 9th, 2013. It is still set to open in North America on the 17th as of right now, while it becomes yet another blockbuster to come out in the UK on a Thursday instead of Friday (Iron Man 3's release was recently brought forward to April 25th). STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS will now be released in UK cinemas one week earlier than previously announced; you will now be able to see it in IMAX 3D, 3D and 2D cinemas on May 9th, 2013!





When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

Sweet, it's weird how we get these films early, but then again, US usually get disney films 4 months before the UK. Speaking of early releases though, I already have my tickets booked for the mignight screening of Iron Man 3 at BFI IMAX in London, cannot wait.

Yeah true, but it's also paramount, maybe that's way, it's owned by disney, but it doesn't have the label on, whereas US got Muppets, Brave and Wreck-it Ralph about 3/4 months earlier than the UK

@flashhgordon27 done well there to get them for the bfi IMAX they sell out really fast. I got mine for the midnight IMAX screening for the odeon in Liverpool one.

@Spideyguy94 yeah I was impressed as well haha, I never get there in time, but they still have quite a few seats left, but I don't think there are many in the middle left now, and obviously at IMAX you don't want to be stuck on the side.

Well it opens several places in the US on the 15th,so not actually a week early. But hey,I'll see it whenever it does come out,don't care where that is. Some REALLY bad marketing on this movie so far,but at least it's coming. It's still coming in May,right? LOL!

Oh how I wish it was opening early in the US. I will be on vacation and won't be ae to see it until the 20th at the earliest. First Trek movie I won't see opening night.:(

Grrrrrr if this was a guy ritchie movie or david yates or anyone with bad teeth maybe. Just dont spoil iron man or star trek you damn blokes! If we gotta wait keep your mouths shut lol. just release them all at the same time. If I remember japan just got around to the avengers. Imagine if we had almost a year after it first came out to actually watch it. Its not fair

So what is with these American studios releasing American movies elsewhere first nowadays? For big movies like these, its not like you need a week or two of buzz from releases in other countries to stimulate the marketing for them here. Our country really has become weak...first we send our President on an apology tour and now we give them our damn movies first! hahaha! Boooo!

So the UK is "better" then America because a Star Trek film will be released there a week early? Really?

The reason is simple.The studios have got it in their heads that the summer season in North America starts in May. A big movie released in North America in April would somehow in the studio's eyes,not be able to be called a "summer Blockbuster"

It has something to do with creating an "Event film" atmosphere which is every thing in the USA.

While money is money and the studios want to make it where ever they can,the UK market globally is rather insignificant. It's North America,China and India where the real money is. What I'm saying is it hardly a case of the UK market making or breaking any big budget film and more of a case of trying to make money in a small market while using the UK's global media reach to drive intrest in North America.

The studios like to use the UK for early release because many film reviews from the London papers are picked up by stateside papers.Its a way of generating buzz if people here hear that people over there like a film. There are so many choices during the summer and for most people in America,choices have to be made on which tent pole the family is gonna see.

Hearing a lot of good reviews from UK reviewers on US entertainment programs could be all the difference for a family in Nebraska making a movie choice.

Marvel made the first move by moving Ironman 3 into late April,so Paramount moved Star trek up a week.

This is nothing new.Superman 2 was released 6 months ahead of time overseas in December 1980,but WB felt the film would do better as an summer blockbuster domestically.

Only difference is that was pre internet,so people in the US these days have to show a little discipline and avoid articles on this website about our favorite movies if they are written after an early international release before they come out in the USA.

I doubt WB will release Man of Steel early,because they didn't do it with TDKR.

Everybody is out of school and summer is in full effect in June so what gain is there for WB to release Man of Steel on say June 9th in the UK alone? When it comes to the month of May,many european countries have college holiday periods in April.

Sure we got spring break in America but the studios don't look at it as a great time to release a summer blockbuster.

There are also international events like soccer (sorry football) events that are a big deal overseas that studios want to get around.
