Star Trek Phase II Enterprise

Star Trek Phase II Enterprise

Before there was Star Trek: The Motion Picture, there was supposed to be a new television series called Star Trek Phase II, starring every member of the original series cast except for Leonard Nimoy. In this video, take a look at some production sketches as well as the Enterprise created for that show.

Interesting concept for the Enterprise. I see they used a lot of it in ST:TMP. I can't decide whether or not they did the right thing making the movie instead of a new series, but they probably did.

If this did go into production I bet Spock would have came back.

A long time ago I interviewed a lot of the people involved with that proposed show. I read the memos that were generated and the different stories -- either treatments or full teleplays. Spock was most definitely NOT in the mix. Instead, we had Commander Decker, Lt. Ilia and a full Vulcan by the name of Xon. I think Xon was the most interesting of the characters, because whereas Spock wanted to conceal his human emotions, Xon, in an effort to try and fit in, sometimes exaggerated emotions he didn't even have. It played well. Would have definitely been an interesting series, though not sure I'd want to see a Star Trek with everyone but Spock.

Well this has been in production for a couple of years. They actually have some full web epidsodes that stared George Takei, Walter Koenig & others.

It's not the Phase II ship (yet) but there is a fanmade show called Star Trek Phase II. Check out this short clip.

As irrelevant as all about Star Trek, well... with the exception of the incredible new film.

Cool. Just the fact that they ware going to have a second series is a testament to how popular the series got after cancellation.

@tenaciousbt

It is the Phase II ship. The fanmade Star Trek Phase II was spawned from it. The original Phase II had actual sets and concept art that actually showed the progression of technology into a new Enterprise. It looked the same on the outside, but the interior was altered including an engine room that looked very much like the engine room of TNG. The fanmade wasn't anything but a continuation of the original TV Series. On the Collector's Edition of the Motion Picture, you not only see the concept art, but screen tests of some of the new cast that "would have" been in the series including the new Vulcan science officer.

I would have rather had the new Phase 2 TV series. All we ended up with was a few good movies with that cast when we could of had maybe a 5-10 year series run.

What I meant by my comment was that althought there is a fanmade show called Phase II, the bridge of the ship is not currently in the style of the real Phase II bridge from the unmade Phase II series, although I believe the online fanseries is going to eventually go to that set.

Oh yeah! I named that particular alien "The Flem Monster" many years ago. Sounds like he's either got a real bad bronchial infection or smokes way too many heaters.

As a long time Trek fan I knew about the Phase 2 series and the Xon character, but I've never seen any photos of the actual model as shown at 0:25-0:28 until now. Looks pretty decent. Most of the images in that video, however, show the actual movie ship or some fan-made/game conglomeration.

FYI, for those who don't know, they decided to go with a movie instead of a tv series after Star Wars came out and was a big success.

@flashito...I couldn't disagree with more. The new movie was an action packed thrill ride, but it was a slap in the face to original Trek fans everywhere.

@Ed- I wonder if the Xon character was the basis for Data in TNG.
Sounds like the show would have been interesting but then we would never have gotten The Wrath of Khan and teh world would be a much smaller and sadder place...

KHANNNN!!!!!
