Star Trek Review... by a Lax Trekkie

Not being a "Trekkie," I was not overly excited to see this film as I have been and still am about other movies. I know the basics of the characters and their trademark tag lines and such, so I kind of knew what to expect.

Let me start by saying that Mr. Spielberg better watch his back because J.J. Abrams has kicked things up a notch with this film. Abrams, mostly known for creating the TV show Lost and his work on Cloverfield, has etched his name in the books as a true action film maker. The film is absolutely stunning from beginning to end. The SFX are incredible and definitely not lacking. The cinematography goes right along with that. There are some camera shots that are unique and brilliant, and certainly memorable.

The music is what it should have been for a Star Trek film: loud with a very large brass section. Throw in a bit of the Beastie Boys and you have yourself a good sound track.

I felt the film dragged on a bit during the middle and the story took an interesting turn in the middle. I wasn't a huge fan of the direction it went, but I've seen worse "twists" (ahem...Hancock). Bring your thinking cap, because there's a lot of physics stuff being thrown around and it gets to be a bit much after a while.

One of the downfalls to this show, at least for me, would have to be Zachary Quinto. I am a fan of the show Heroes, so he will always be Sylar to me and I didn't really see any deviation from that character. He seemed to be trying too hard to act like Leonard Nemoy, and it didn't work. Thats just my though though. I've never really been a big Spock fan anyway, so personal opinion there. All of the other actors did great. Karl Urban is a dead ringer as Bones and does an amazing job. Simon Pegg was awesome as Scotty, but very under used. Zoe Saldana is H-O-T! Although I am a fan of Anton Yelchin in his other films, he seemed a bit over done here: the accent was bad and he seemed a bit childish I guess. I was not so thrilled about Chris Pine being cast as Capt. Kirk, but he pulls it off pretty well

As a whole, the show was great. It captures your attention right off the bat and, for the most part, holds on to it. I'd tell you to sit back and enjoy the ride, the scenery and the very well written script!

I loved the movie. But what I loved even more was seeing grown men and women dress up as their favorite alien (some realy don't need make up) ready to be disappointed by the movie, for lack of interstellar politics. Yeah that's just what we need. "Bush in space!" the movie. They bitch a litte, they moan a lot, they still live with their mother but most of all they just didn't give this star trek flick a chance.
I for one hope they make more. Just wanna see more of this action packed film. Let me see kirk screwing every alien race out there. Scotty [frick]ing up a transport and creating a donkeyfacedchickenpinguin. Spock fingerbanging Uhura in the shuttle bay and bones being sewed for mall practice.
I don't care. But show me the money baby, cause i liked it!

I would do god-awful, unforgivable things to Zoey Saldana. She is the cocoa butter to my ashy skin. She makes me whole.
